Excellent guides and tour company. - I was delighted with the trip. Lucas was an intelligent, informative guide. Yes, we had to travel a long way, yes the lights were not as dramatic as they sometimes are, but the whole experience was magical. I was especially impressed with the respect for the environment and the use of reusable utensils rather than single use disposable cups. I went on a tour with another company and found it "lightweight" compared to the Wandering Owl tour.

Defied all odds! - A truly astonishing and divine experience and only because of the passion, tenacity, and devotion of Tomas and Maciej. When we arrived at the Scandic Ishavshotel, the sky was densely overcast. I looked at my Aurora app and it said only a 3% chance of aurora sightings. I questioned why we even decided to do this and expected the evening to be a "sit around the campfire and tell the tourists Aurora stories" deal. On schedule, Tomas stood up on a bench and announced we were going to Finland. After an hour and a half of driving, we stopped for a bathroom break, and Tomas announced there was a change of plans and we were headed south. Tomas engaged us with stories about Norway and the Northern Lights, interspersed with phone calls and chats with his colleagues to get updates on the weather and conditions. Maciej navigated the Norwegian backroads like a bloodhound set on a scent. Another hour and a half and three stops later, we arrived next to a valley, just west of Sweden, with gorgeous peaks in the distance. To my surprise, there was a distinct purple glow of the Northern Lights over the horizon and if we had left it at that, I would have been satisfied with our expense. But it was just the beginning. Every time we went to sit by the campfire, a new display would dance across the sky. Tomas thought the clouds would come in at 11PM but at midnight, the glory of the sky opened up in a tapestry of green, red, pink, and purple. Beams of light shot in every direction like we were entering warp speed in Star Wars. I was convinced angels were descending from heaven. Regrettably, at 1AM the show faded and Tomas announced we needed to make the three hour journey home. This was a once-in-a-lifetime gift we will always cherish. The soup was excellent too.

A Magical Night with Wandering Owl - This tour was beyond incredible! It's a small group, so we got to know everyone. With adults-only, people were willing to drive and stay out late (though we didn't have to!). Tomas, our guide, was outstanding - as a guide sharing knowledge, conversationalist, finder-of-amazing spots, photographer, and just over-all good person. The Northern Lights were absolutely breathtaking. We got one of the best spots, with a fire and cozy shelter but a babbling brook. Highly recommend this tour and Tomas!

Amazing Northern Lights Tour with Wandering Owl! - Our experience with Wandering Owl was absolutely unforgettable! Our guide, Tomas, was incredible—knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about making sure we had the best possible experience. He took us to the perfect spots to witness the most amazing Northern Lights display, and his photography skills ensured we left with beautiful memories. The food provided was delicious, and I really appreciated the attention to gluten-free options—such a thoughtful touch! Everything about the tour was well-organized and personalized, making it a truly magical night.

THE Best Adventure! Tomas & Wandering Owl Know Their Stuff! - Booked on recommendation through a FaceBook page, we had THE most fantastic evening with Tomas and our fellow NL chasers (22 Feb 25). In a small group of 8, Tomas created a fantastic adventure, bringing us closer together with questions, stories, interesting facts about the aurora while driving into the darkness. When we got to our location, Tomas' phone was very busy with updates as to where the NLs would show and he settled for Skibotn Beach. Providing snow suits to keep us warm, and valuable tech advice for our phones, we enjoyed a welcome campfire, soup and bread while Tomas reassured us that the NL would show. He was right! A few minutes later, a beautiful long green strip appeared which then burst into what I can only describe as angel wings dancing across the sky. Tomas captured the moments with excitement which was so lovely to see. The hot chocolate, cookies and chat around the campfire afterwards was such a nice touch and good finish to the evening. Our journey back was quiet if we needed to sleep, With soft music playing, including some Sami songs, we were dropped safely back right at our hotel door by 3am. Such an incredible evening with a super guide. Tomas is such a charismatic soul and very knowledgeable, he looked after us so perfectly we can't thank him (and Wandering Owl) enough. The images we received were beautifully presented via email the next day (within hours of our return to our hotel) and will be a reminder of memories to last a lifetime. Highly, highly recommended. PS - Tomas - remember to check out the woolly mammoth revival! Thank you from Nick & Jen x

Absolutely mindblowing! Cannot recommend them enough - We did a tour in February with Tomas. We deliberately chose the small tour because it takes time to get everyone out of the bus and so the small bus makes the most sense and it is easy to hear from the guide whilst driving. We stopped once near a main road and saw some lights but there was a lot of light pollution and passing traffic so Tomas took us to the shore of one of the fjords where there was no light pollution and we were the only group in that spot. We saw some beautiful lights all around us. We agreed not to light a fire because it affects your night vision and it was not super cold. On the way back to Tromso (roughly 1am), Tomas asked if we were too tired to see more lights. We all woke up and jumped out the car in a parking space near a road and we saw such beautiful and intense lights. No cars drove past so it was spectacular. Tomas worked hard to get great pictures of us in front of the lights. His childlike delight at what we were all seeing was so infectious. On the way he shared scientific explanations of the lights and also how the lights were historically interpreted by different cultures. Some saw them as an omen and others saw them as a blessing. He was an amazing guide and we got home very tired but also very happy. The soup that we drank at the shore spot was delicious and the hot chocolate was great too.

Poor customer service - The communication from the main office is subpar. Our tour was initially cancelled due to weather (after it had already started. I would note that pretty much every other company cancelled much before that so I question why they proceeded out when other companies cancelled). We were offered an opportunity to rebook or receive a refund. We attempted to delay providing a response but found the office to be quite pushy about getting us to go again. We untimely decided to try and go but had to cancel. We attempted to get a refund and the office was not helpful or understanding at all. We used other companies while in Tromsø who I found to be easier to work with. I wouldn’t use this as your first option.

Shorter tour option, hoping company will admit shortcomings in response. - We booked this tour the day before. The tour was a shortened version. The vehicle was new, very comfortable. According to the guide, both he and the driver had some longevity with the company, they were not new employees. First stop was a gas station about 25 minutes from town. Several vehicles were there, most from Wandering Owl. This stop lasted 40 minutes. That’s right- 40 minutes at a gas station for a shorter tour. We were all done with everyone back in their seats waiting as the guide chatted with other guides outside. My husband asked him if the conversation were about where to go and he laughingly said no, it was some social issue. The bathroom lines were long at this station. Perhaps it would be better to use separate rest stops. We could see several from our spot with none to few vehicles. The guide said they liked to use this station as other vehicles stop there. That comment was unsolicited. We drove about 10 minutes to the first stop. We got out, saw lights and some snow. No outerwear was offered, although we saw some. The driver remained in the bus. The guide set up to take pictures. It was hard to find him as it was pitch dark. Finally we saw he was taking pictures of people in the group. We got in line. He got to the couple in front of us and he said we had to go to get to another spot at a park. He said he’d get our pictures then. We all got back on the bus and waited for the guide. Finally after 10 minutes my husband got out to find get him. He was still taking pictures while we all waited on the bus. He indicated the pictures were for his own use. We didn’t go to the second spot as planed, but turned around and headed back towards Tromso. Second stop there weren't any lights, not complaining about that as sighting lights can be elusive, but the guide said they had to make two stops. Treats were offered, but we were told no hot chocolate as it was the shortened trip. That just seemed petty. The guide continued to complain that he had to get back to Tromso by midnight, or both he and the driver would be in trouble with their hours. He did indicate this shorter tour was a new option and that the office wanted feedback. I did do this, but never received a response. We had gone with another company the night before and had a much better experience. It would be nice if the company would admit where they need to improve something and apologize instead of defending everything which is what we see in the reposes to these reviews. That is why I decided to post a review after several months. Certainly no company gets everything right 100% all the time. The responses sound like it is everybody else is at fault. That attitude alone is enough to consider another operator. The guide told us there were over 100 tour companies in Tromso.
