Today, we will visit one of Moldova’s most scenic locations – the Cultural and Natural Reserve «Orheiul Vechi» (Cave Monastery Complex) — located 55 km from Chisinau. Here, you will find an Orthodox cave monastery called “St. Maria Dormata,” which has been expanded and modified within the cliffs by monks over the centuries and remains in a functional state. After the tour, we will enjoy lunch with a folk program at a Moldovan family pension in the nearby village.

Additionally, the Old Orhei archaeological complex features ruins and historical sites from various historical periods and traditions.

Situated in central Moldova, just a brief 45-minute drive from Chisinau, Old Orhei (Orheiul Vechi) is a must-visit destination for those interested in history, archaeological sites, beautiful nature, and local culinary traditions. The area of Old Orhei was declared a natural reserve during the Soviet period on 15 March 1968, ensuring the protection and enhancement of its cultural and natural heritage.
