The lagoon features turquoise, vivid blue, and exotic white waters. In some areas, the sand has a striking pinkish hue due to the millions of crushed shells. As you venture further into the sea, beyond the rocks that form the natural boundaries, the water becomes colder and deeper, making it perfect for snorkeling. The Natura 2000 program safeguards Balos Lagoon due to its rare flora and fauna. Approximately 400 plant species have been documented in the area, with twenty-five species native to Crete, and three exclusively found in Balos. The lagoon is home to numerous migratory birds that feed and breed here, including Eleonora falcons, cormorants, and shags nesting in nearby caves. The area also serves as a refuge for the protected loggerhead or Caretta-Caretta sea turtle and monk seal.

Upon reaching Balos Lagoon, the yacht will anchor in the bay’s center, allowing guests to dive into the pristine waters for a refreshing swim (disembarkation is not permitted). The crew will serve an array of drinks and snacks made from local, natural ingredients. During the stop, guests can enjoy snorkeling and stand-up paddleboarding, guided by the captain’s instructions. There will be about 0.5 to 1 hour to enjoy Balos before the return journey to the port during the enchanting golden hour. The sail back will also take around 1.5 hours.
