Maria R's Walking Tour of Toronto - Our morning walking tour with Maria R of Toonie Tours was just what we wanted on our first morning in Toronto (having arrived the night before). BTW a toonie is Canadian slang for a $2 coin (as the $1 coin has a loon on it, so twice that is a toon). I learned that from Maria R! It was easy to find her with her red umbrella next to the dog fountain in Berczy Park not far from Union Station (which was our finishing point). There were useful toilet breaks on our 3 hour walk around this part of the city. It's free, but you are asked to pay tips as to what you think the tour was worth, It's a concept common in Europe and I've signed up with Toonie Tours for similar walks in Vancouver, Montreal and Quebec. It's a good way to start exploring a new city - being shown around by someone who knows their way around. Thanks Maria.

A great tour! - It was a very nice experience-packed hike/tour, we were shown a lot (different parts of Toronto), explained historically and from life, could ask many questions. Everything was always answered. We were a small group as it was very cold that day and five people did not come. But that didn't stop us from having a great time together. Our guide was very nice, helpful and showed us many interesting corners in Toronto that I would certainly not have found on my own. I can only recommend the tour, you get to know so many new things!

Highly recommend for anyone wanting to see the 'real' Toronto beyond the guidebooks - My partner and I joined Joel for this 3-hour tour on our first morning in Toronto, and it was the perfect way to get our bearings. We started at the whimsical Berczy Park dog fountain and covered so much ground—from the stunning red bricks of the Gooderham (Flatiron) Building to the modern skyscrapers in the Financial District. Happy To Visit Happy To Visit A personal highlight was finally understanding The PATH; we’d seen the signs but had no idea it was such a massive underground 'city' until our guide took us down there to show us how locals navigate the winter. Joel was incredibly funny and kept us engaged with trivia questions throughout the walk. We even had a nice 15-minute break at Nathan Phillips Square to grab a selfie with the famous Toronto sign. Tripadvisor Tripadvisor +3 It is a brisk walk (about 7km), so definitely wear your most comfortable shoes! We felt the recommended $30 tip was more than worth it for the insider food recommendations he gave us for St. Lawrence Market afterward.

Great winter private walking tour - I had a great time on a private tour with Toonie Tours in Toronto. Toronto is a super interesting city if you walk around with someone who knows what you are looking at. I did this tour on a -12 degree celsius day - it’s completely doable. Definitely recommend.

Lovely Friendly Toronto - It was a cold day and the ground was covered with snow, we did not expect completing the tour! But, hooray, we did and enjoyed the tour very much, because our tour guide was a knowledgeable and kind young man (Joel) I hope that I am writing his name correctly 😀. We enjoyed listening to the history of Toronto and Joel's trivia questions made it fun! Thanks a lot!

We were a small group and... - We were a small group and it was a good walking tour through Old Toronto. Alex was our tour guide and I was glad she encouraged conversation within the group. She had a book with photos that helped visualise the history of the locations we went to.
