Paul McCartney Photographs special exhibit is awesome - This special exhibit is not to be missed. It is real window into that period of time for the Beatles and the people surrounding them. The breath and depth of the photos are superb. Additionally, there is some great memorabilia on show as well. The curator has done a wonderful job presenting the photos and materials. This is definitely a special exhibit not to be missed.

Larger than expected,... - Larger than expected, needs time depending on how serious an art lover one is. Nice collection of Canadian art and interesting displays of contemporary work.

Unmissable if you’re an art fan - This gallery has so many different styles of art and sculpture that I honestly believe there is something for everyone here. I realised straight away that I would need more than one visit so I paid an extra $10 and converted my ticket into an annual pass. I have been in three times during my stay in Toronto which means I have saved $50! I particularly enjoyed the Jesse Mockrin exhibition, Modernism (Level 4), and European Art (Level 1). The gallery map highlights 29 works if you’re short of time and want an overview of works from different periods. However, I suggest that you spend a long time here, if you do have the time.

Current special exhibits - David Blackwood: Myth & Legend: This is a very large exhibit of his works and is extremely good. The curators have done a great job presenting historic info and materials from various periods. Some wonderful areas displaying the various phases of a piece being developed and the final print. Be sure to watch the film about creating prints. Very fascinating! Don't miss this exhibit. Surusilutu Ashoona: Small exhibition but some wonderful prints. You get the essence of the artist. Definitely worth checking this exhibit out. Naoko Matsubara: Great breath of prints showing the evolution over time. Be sure to watch the film interviewing her. Some wonderful insights into the artist herself and the interior of her house. Don't miss this exhibit. Collective Visions: Celebrating 25 Years of Photography: We love photography but this exhibit was a bit weak. I think the concept was great. However, the execution left you wanting more. I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Well worth seeing, distinctive building - Always nice when the structure itself is also art. Enjoyed this, lots of variety - though as a non-Canadian the extensive Group of 7 was too much of the same (patriotism is great, but doesn't necessarily equal best art) Lots more, though if contemporary isn't your thing there is a fair amount of this as well. Enough variety for everyone. I went during Friday evening hours and did not feel crowded. It is a solid 'large city' museum.

Kafka meets Sisyphus - The Art Gallery of Ontario are to be congratulated on creating a real art installation with their Gift Membership scheme - Kafka meets Sisyphus. It's a great gallery - I loved it - so I wanted to send my two cousins a Gift Membership each. That's where the trouble started. The staff are great - they really tried to help - but their Gift Membership system is a real stinker. Don't buy a Gift Membership for your friends - send them the money instead.

Interesting exhibitions - The Art Gallery had extensive exhibitions over 5 floors. We particularly enjoyed the David Blackwood and ship models exhibitions.

Have lots of time - It's $30 admission for an adult so make sure you have lots of time to make the most of the gallery. We spent 1.5 hours and only saw the first floor paintings- not the section to the left with all the artifacts. The Blackwood installation and the Jess Mockrin installation were fantastic. I would have loved to have had more time to see what the rest of the gallery had for us to see...guess it means another visit sometime when we are back in the city
