- Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine - Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine is one of about 1,300 Asama shrines in Japan that honor the deity of volcanoes, particularly Mount Fuji. The shrine is part of the Mt. Fuji UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, designated in 2013. Nestled in a dense old-growth forest, the shrine maintains a connection to the spiritual world. Covering 99,000 square meters, Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen is one of Japan’s largest forest shrines. The long, atmospheric approach to the main shrine is lined with moss-covered stone lanterns and shaded by towering cedar trees. Noteworthy on the shrine grounds are four trees believed to be around 1,000 years old, with a circumference of 23 meters.

The park features a large free parking area and is popular as a rest stop for cyclists and motorcyclists. The seasonal blooms, expansive lake scenery, and magnificent view of Mt. Located on the mountainside of the outer rim of the Hakone crater, it provides a panoramic view of the city. The stupa, a symbol of the park, houses the Buddha’s ashes, a gift from the late Indian Prime Minister Nehru. Four golden Buddha images are also displayed. In front of the stupa, guardian dogs from various Asian countries stand in line. Additionally, the pond circuit-style Japanese garden, the Buddhist Monastery of Nihonzan-Myoho-ji Temple, and images of the Deity of Mercy ‘Nade Kannon’ (lit. rubbing Kannon) and 33 Kannon images are also worth visiting.
