It stands as a remarkable testament to its size, architectural, and decorative features. Today, it is an extraordinary, vast park spanning over 80 hectares, dotted with impressive Roman ruins, spas, and 18th-century farmhouses, maintaining much of its ancient allure. The visit includes the Maritime Theater, an artificial island serving as the emperor’s private retreat, and the Canopus complex, featuring a large rectangular basin surrounded by sculptures, reflecting the captivating structure of the Serapeum.

Located a few kilometers from Rome, Villa d’Este was constructed at the request of Cardinal Ippolito II d’Este, governor of Tivoli from 1550. The cardinal, disappointed by not being elected as pontiff, sought to bring the splendor of the Ferrarese, Roman, and French courts and to rival the magnificence of Villa Adriana.
