Tissamaharama to Ella
Ella - Greetings
Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya - After breakfast, the operator will embark on a train ride from Ella to Nuwara Eliya. A driver will pick up the operator from the Nanu Oya railway station in Nuwara Eliya and drive to Kandy, with stops at a tea factory, waterfalls, and tea plantations along the way. The scenic train ride offers breathtaking views on both sides, winding through mountains, farms, villages, and vast tea plantations. The scenery changes throughout the journey, from expansive green views to woodland forests.
Victoria Park of Nuwara Eliya - Nuwara Eliya, known as the “City of Lights,” is a resort city in Sri Lanka’s Central Mountain Range. It boasts a pleasant climate, stunning views of valleys, meadows, mountains, and greenery. Despite being only 180 km from Colombo, Nuwara Eliya, also called ‘Little England,’ was a favored hill station of the British, who aimed to recreate an English village. The old brick post office, country house-like hill club with hunting pictures, mounted trophies, and formal dinner attire, the 18-hole golf course, and racecourse evoke nostalgia for Colonial British Ceylon.
Kandy City Tour
Kandy - After breakfast, the operator will explore Kandy, visiting the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Dalada Maligawa) and the botanical garden, followed by a cultural Kandyan dance performance. The Temple of the Tooth, Sri Dalada Maligawa, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka, located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, housing the Buddha’s tooth relic. The night will be spent at a hotel in Kandy.
Peradeniya - Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, located about 5.5 km west of Kandy in Sri Lanka’s Central Province, attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is near the Mahaweli River and is renowned for its orchid collection.
Kandy to Sigiriya
Dambulla - After breakfast, the operator will drive to visit a Hindu temple in Matale town, then the Dambulla Cave Temple. After lunch, the journey continues to the hotel for an overnight stay in Sigiriya. The Matale Hindu Temple, Muthumariamman Temple, or Arulmigu Sri Muthumari Amman Kovil, is a temple in Matale, Sri Lanka. “Muthu” means “pearl,” “Mari” means rain, and “Amman” means mother.
Dambulla Town - Dambulla is home to the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m above the surrounding plains, with over 80 documented caves in the area. Major attractions are spread over five caves, containing statues and paintings related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses, including Vishnu and Ganesha. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square meters (23,000 sq ft), depicting scenes like the demon Mara’s temptation and Buddha’s first sermon.
Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa - After breakfast, the operator will visit the archaeological city of Polonnaruwa. Following this, a delightful lunch will be enjoyed before driving to Trincomalee Beach on the east coast. Polonnaruwa was a significant city in Sri Lanka, gaining prominence during its brief 2-century period in Sri Lankan history, second only to the ancient city of Anuradhapura in cultural heritage. Today, Polonnaruwa showcases great ancient Sri Lankan architecture from the 12th Century AD, interwoven with many Buddhist monasteries and monuments built by King Parakramabahu I.
Mirissa Beach
Mirissa Beach - In the morning, the operator will proceed to Mirissa Beach. The afternoon can be spent relaxing on the beach. Mirissa is a major beach destination in southern Sri Lanka, offering beautiful beaches, surf waves, whale watching, and excellent bars and restaurants. Although it has become more crowded in recent years, there are still plenty of spots to enjoy a fresh coconut from a hammock while watching the sunrise.
Stay overnight at a hotel in Mirissa.
Whale Watching, Galle to Colombo Airport
Galle Fort - In the morning, there is an opportunity for whale watching. Whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa is one of the most exciting water activities in Sri Lanka. The warm waters around Sri Lanka are ideal for spotting blue whales, Bryde’s whales, sperm whales, fin whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and occasionally killer whales. Spinner dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, and striped dolphins can also be seen. The whale watching season runs from November to April when the waters are warm and calm. Whale watching boats can carry up to 40 passengers with an observation deck. Tours typically start around 7:00 am as boats leave the harbor and last about 3.5-4 hours.
Colombo - In the afternoon, the operator will drive to Galle and visit Galle Fort. Galle is the capital city of Sri Lanka’s Southern Province. It reached its peak development in the 18th century during the Dutch colonial period. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by the Portuguese in South and Southeast Asia, showcasing the interaction between Portuguese architectural styles and native traditions. The city was extensively fortified by the Dutch from 1649 onwards. The Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. The tour concludes with a drop-off at Bandaranaike International Airport.
