• 6RQ2+J3R - This is a distinctive hike in the Tirana Valleys, developed during the winter of 2024/25.

Participants should possess a good level of fitness and be ready for some steep ascents on poorly maintained paths. The only individuals traversing these trails are local shepherds and the organizers!

The hike commences from a village in the Baldushk region, southwest of Tirana, at an altitude of approximately 210m. The goal is to reach the summit of Mali i Vrapit (647m). The path is generally good, but near the peak, participants will need to navigate across uneven limestone. It should take about 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the top.

After taking in the views, the descent begins - the first 100m is the most challenging part of the hike. From there, the terrain becomes easier as participants make their way to the village café, aiming to arrive around 13:30. Here, they can enjoy a beer and a simple lunch made from locally sourced ingredients.

Between 15:00 and 15:30, Beni, the village’s bus driver, will transport participants back to the starting point in his cherished 1980s Mercedes minibus. Although the distance is only about 7km, the road is extremely rough, so the journey will take approximately 40 minutes!

Estimating the drive time back to Tirana is challenging due to the city’s unpredictable traffic!

This hike offers a unique experience. The team dedicated many days during the winter of 2024/25 exploring the Tirana Valleys to map out this route.

Unlike typical day trips from Tirana, this hike is located within Tirana County itself, eliminating the need for a lengthy transfer. It’s only 24km from Mother Teresa Square to the starting point of the hike, which takes about 40 minutes.

Participants will traverse a stunning area untouched by tourism and rarely visited by locals from Tirana. It is anticipated that the only encounters will be with local villagers and shepherds.

The landscape is absolutely breathtaking, making it hard to believe that it’s just a few kilometers from Tirana.

This hike is accessible from early October until the end of April. During the summer months, the temperatures are too high for a comfortable walk.
