- Skopje Art Bridge - The tour begins near the city center, adjacent to the bridges over the Vardar River. As part of the Skopje 2014 mega Infrastructure Plan, the city underwent extensive redecoration and restoration. Much of its history is depicted through statues, memorials, and two additional significant bridges, “The Eye Bridge” and “The Art Bridge.” Numerous important buildings are also situated near the bridges, making this one of the city’s most attractive and picturesque areas.
- Skopje Eye Bridge - A distinctive bridge constructed and adorned in 2014. Statues of the most significant historical figures in Macedonian history, and beyond, proudly stand along the bridge.
- Skopje - Depart from Tirana and drive towards the city of Skopje. On this 300-kilometer journey, experience the contrasts between cities, regions, and countries. The memory of the communist era remains vivid in both countries and throughout the region, with remnants of old industrial complexes, bunkers, and slogans glorifying the communist period and its leaders.
Upon entering the city, observe its vast expansion, built on Yugoslavian and modern architectural foundations. Significant changes occurred after the city was heavily damaged by the 1963 earthquake, which destroyed 80% of it.
- Old Bazaar, Skopje - During the Ottoman era, Skopje was a city of great importance. It developed significantly, with much of its infrastructure taking on an oriental style. The earliest records of the bazaar date back to the late 12th century, describing it as one of the largest marketplaces in the Balkans. It quickly expanded to become the most vibrant part of the city during the Ottoman period. According to Ottoman traditions and customs, cities and bazaars with Bedestens were highly significant, indicating a high value of goods and trade.
- Shot Bar Bezisten - Also a crucial part of the Bazaar, Bezisten was a closed area within the market, covered with domes like mosques. It was where valuable items such as gold, silver, and jewelry were traded. Being covered made it easier to protect from theft and increased its prestige and elegance. Ottoman documents indicate that bazaars with Bezistens held a higher societal rank.
- Kuršumli An - Strategically located between east and west, Skopje served as a stopover for travelers and caravans. During the Ottoman period, many Hans flourished in the city, with Kurshumli Han being the largest remaining. Situated in the Old Bazaar, it was a resting place for travelers and their horses, with a capacity for around 100 horses. It also served as a stable for war horses and a prison.
- The Stone Bridge - The only old bridge remaining in Skopje’s city center, connecting both sides of the Vardar River.
- Church of the Ascension of Jesus - Located between the eastern wall of Skopje Castle and the Old Bazaar, this is one of the city’s most remarkable Orthodox churches that has withstood the test of time. Built in the mid-16th century on the foundation of an older church, it is renowned for its exquisite wooden iconostasis and hand-carved wooden elements. It also features remarkable frescoes in the main dome, reflecting the Orthodox style under the Byzantine school of religious art.
- Kapan Han - Known as one of the most frequented guesthouses by merchants and traders, it is now a valuable relic of 17th-century hospitality.
- Skopje Fortress Kale - Situated on a prominent hill overlooking the city, the fortress is the earliest settlement of life in early Skupi. Although restored, the outer walls highlight the castle’s importance and its strategic role throughout history. It is undoubtedly one of the best locations for capturing stunning photos of the city.
- Tirana - Hotel pick-up included.
- Memorial House of Mother Teresa - Mother Teresa, born Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, was born in Skopje to a local Albanian family. Educated at an Albanian Catholic school from an early age, she chose to dedicate her life to God and the poor. She spent most of her life in India, and today her birthplace has been transformed into a museum.
- Mustafa Pasha Mosque - Built in 1492 as Mustafa Pasha’s testament, this is one of Skopje’s most remarkable mosques. It is believed to have been constructed on the foundations of an early medieval church and was not damaged by the 1963 earthquake. Last renovated in 2011, it symbolizes the city’s and society’s multi-religious nature.
- Macedonia Square - Undoubtedly the heart of the city, where one of the most important families of antiquity and Macedonian and Balkan history is represented through grand statues. The Great Alexander stands proudly in the center of the square, with his parents Philip II and Olympia located on the other side of the river, in a smaller square named after his father. The city’s new face and the Baroque architecture built around it have given the city a new, distinct character.
