- Tirana - Albania’s largest museum showcases numerous archaeological treasures, including a replica of Skanderbeg’s impressive sword. It’s a marvel how he managed to wield it while riding and fighting. Although the lighting may be dim, the outstanding collection is mostly labeled in English, guiding visitors chronologically from ancient Illyria to the post-communist era. The statues, mosaics, and columns from ancient Greek and Roman times are truly awe-inspiring.
- Mount Dajti - This is the most accessible mountain in Albania, where locals often retreat to escape the city’s hustle and enjoy a spit-roast lamb lunch. The Dajti Express, an Austrian-made cable car, offers a scenic 15-minute ride almost to the summit (1611m).
- Kruje - Located just 32km from Tirana and near Tirana International Airport, this historic city sits 608m above sea level, providing a stunning panoramic view. The city’s name and significance are tied to the 25-year legacy of national hero Skanderbeg, who turned Kruja into a stronghold of resistance against the Ottomans in the fifteenth century. The Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg Museum is housed within the castle walls, dating back to the fifth and sixth centuries A.D.
- Shkoder - Shkodra is one of Albania’s oldest cities, established in the 4th century B.C. as the center of the Labeat tribe, known as Scodra. It is encircled by the Drini, Buna, and Kiri rivers. The castle, like the town it protected, has Illyrian roots. Historian Tit Livi described it as “the strongest area of the Labeats.” The castle is also associated with a local legend about Rozafa, the bride of the youngest of three brothers who originally built it.
- Rinas - After breakfast, enjoy some free time at your leisure before transferring to Tirana Airport.
