Apollonia Archaeological Park - Departure from Tirana is scheduled for 07:30, heading towards Fier. The first stop will be Apollonia Archaeological Park, located 120 km from Tirana, approximately a 2-hour drive. Apollonia was a Greek colony established in the 6th century BC, featuring a significant Illyrian influence, and was situated in the territory of the Illyrian Taulantii tribe. The city was named after the god Apollo and prospered due to its strategically significant harbor and asphalt deposits, which were essential for ship caulking. Apollonia thrived under Roman rule and was praised by Cicero as a prominent city. The site is about 1 km from the Via Egnatia. The city’s decline began in the 3rd century AD when its harbor started silting up. Among the ruins, visitors can find the portico of a temple, an Odeon theater, and a Library.
Bylis - The second stop is Bylis, 43 km from Apollonia, approximately a 50-minute drive. Bylis Archaeological Park, or the ancient city of Bylis, represents one of the oldest Illyrian civilizations. The Theater of Bylis, constructed at the beginning of the 3rd century BC, had a capacity of 5,000 seats and was one of the era’s greatest achievements. Bylis is located on the right side of the Ballsh-Tepelen road, just 35 km from Fieri, and 1.5 km from the center of Hekal village.
Saranda - The journey continues towards Saranda with a stop at the Cold Water of Tepelena. The drive from Apollonia Park to Saranda is 145 km, approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Saranda derives its name from the Forty Saints Monastery, a 6th-century Byzantine monastery, believed to have been a significant Byzantine pilgrimage site. Overnight stay in Saranda.
