Sailing into Family Fun: Our Egmont Key Island Adventure
When I heard about the Egmont Key Ferry Adventure, I knew it was a must-try for our next family outing. Join me as I recount our day of sun, sea, and adventure on this beautiful island.
Setting Sail to Egmont Key
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique and memorable experiences that can be enjoyed by the whole family. So, when I heard about the Egmont Key Ferry Adventure, I knew it was a must-try for our next family outing. We packed our bags, slathered on sunscreen, and headed to the Fort De Soto Bay Pier for a day of sun, sea, and adventure.
The ferry ride itself was a delightful experience. Our captain, Capt. Zig, and his first mate, Braylin, were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly entertaining. Their lively commentary and upbeat music set the perfect tone for our journey. As we cruised through the sparkling waters, we were treated to sightings of playful dolphins and graceful sea birds. The kids were thrilled, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement myself.
Discovering the Island’s Treasures
Upon arriving at Egmont Key, we were greeted by the island’s stunning beauty. The turquoise waters and pristine beaches were like something out of a postcard. We wasted no time in exploring the island, starting with the historic lighthouse and the remnants of Fort Dade. The kids were fascinated by the history, and it was a great opportunity for a little educational fun.
One of the highlights of our visit was spotting the endangered gopher tortoises. These gentle creatures were a joy to watch as they ambled along the sandy paths. We also took some time to relax on the beach, where the kids collected seashells and built sandcastles. It was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, and I couldn’t have asked for a better family bonding experience.
A Day to Remember
As our time on the island came to an end, we boarded the ferry for our return trip. Capt. Zig and Braylin continued to impress with their hospitality. They even made my son’s day by appointing him as the honorary second mate, complete with a special task of holding the return sign. To top it off, Capt. Zig gifted him a shark’s tooth fossil, a memento that he treasures to this day.
The journey back was just as exciting, with Capt. Zig stopping the boat for some impromptu dolphin watching. The kids were over the moon, and it was a wonderful way to cap off our adventure. As we disembarked, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the incredible memories we had made. The Egmont Key Ferry Adventure was truly a highlight of our trip, and I highly recommend it to any family looking for a fun and stress-free day out.
