Discovering Tranquility: My Lan Ha Bay Adventure
Curious about the less-traveled paths of Vietnam, I decided to embark on the Lan Ha Bay Cruise. With tales of overcrowded Ha Long Bay in mind, I was eager to see if this adventure would live up to its promise of tranquility and exploration.
Setting Sail to Lan Ha Bay
After hearing mixed reviews about Ha Long Bay, I was a bit apprehensive about embarking on the Lan Ha Bay Adventure. Friends had warned me about the overcrowded and chaotic nature of the typical Ha Long Bay experience, so I set my expectations low. However, the moment I boarded the Vega Luxury Cruise, I knew I was in for something special.
The journey began with a scenic drive through the Red River Delta, a perfect prelude to the natural beauty that awaited us. As we cruised past the bustling Ha Long Bay, I was relieved to find ourselves heading towards the more tranquil Lan Ha Bay. The difference was palpable; instead of a sea of tourist boats, we found ourselves in a serene bay with only one other boat in sight. The stillness of the water was a welcome change, and I slept like a baby both nights.
Adventures on Cat Ba Island
The activities planned for us were nothing short of exhilarating. Kayaking through the emerald waters to a secluded cave was a highlight. The cave, untouched by the usual tourist crowds, offered a peaceful spot for a swim. The trek to the viewpoint on Cat Ba Island was moderately challenging but absolutely worth it. The panoramic views of Cat Ba, Lan Ha, and Ha Long Bay from the summit were breathtaking—a triple treat for the eyes.
Exploring the caves and spending a few hours on the beach added to the adventure. On the final morning, we visited a local’s mud house on Cat Ba, where we learned about traditional rice wine vinegar production. It was a fascinating glimpse into the local culture and a reminder of the simple joys of life.
Life on the Vega Luxury Cruise
The Vega Luxury Cruise was a cozy floating home for our adventure. With a capacity of 40, our group of 30 had plenty of space to relax and enjoy the stunning views from our rooms. The beds were comfortable, and the hot showers were a luxury after a day of exploration.
The food on board was a delightful surprise. With a variety of dishes to choose from, even the vegetarians in our group were well catered for. While drinks were not included, they were reasonably priced, especially compared to Western standards.
Our tour guide, Louis, was a gem. His knowledge of Vietnam and the areas we visited enriched our experience, and his sense of humor kept us entertained throughout the trip. The evenings offered a chance to try squid fishing or join in on some karaoke fun, adding a touch of lightheartedness to our nights.
Overall, the Lan Ha Bay Cruise was a refreshing escape from the typical tourist trail. It offered a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion, making it a must-do for any traveler seeking a unique experience in Vietnam.
