As you ascend from the square to the castle, the stone houses become more densely packed, and the labyrinth of narrow vaulted lanes becomes more intricate. The village boasts around 33 churches, with the Monastery of Profitis Ilias being the most renowned, housing a small collection of ethnographic materials and old icons. Pyrgos is a must-visit for its stunning panoramic views of the island.
• Megalochori - Traditional Village - Megalochori is a traditional village located less than 10 km from Fira, nestled between Pyrgos, Emporio, and Akrotiri. It features typical Cycladic houses and neoclassical buildings, with hundreds of small white-painted houses stacked upon each other. The village is known for its beautiful churches and combines traditional architecture with vaulted houses and stone-cobbled narrow pathways, fostering a vibrant community with a sizable permanent population.
• Perissa Black Sand Beach - Perissa is one of Santorini’s premier beaches, located next to Emporio village. This long stretch of dark sand is unique for its crystal-clear waters and smooth sand, and it is the best-protected beach from the summer Aegean winds, known as “Meltemia” in Greek.
