Thimphu to Punakha Valley via Dochula Pass

Punakha - In the morning, proceed to Dochula Pass (3,100m). On a clear day, the pass offers spectacular views of the greater eastern Himalayas, including Bhutan’s highest peak. Upon arrival, visit Punakha Dzong, the capital city of Bhutan until 1955, where the Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot, resides during the winter. En route, take a short excursion to the Temple of the Divine Madman, also known as the Temple of Fertility.

Punakha Valley to Paro Valley

Paro District - After breakfast, proceed to Paro and visit Ta Dzong (National Museum). Then, walk down the trail to see Rinpung Dzong (the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels built in the 17th century), traditionally the office of the district governor and a residence for monks.

Paro - Tiger’s Nest - Paro Light Trekking

Paro Taktsang - In the morning, hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). The hike takes about an hour uphill to the viewpoint and another hour to the main complex. Guru Rinpoche initially visited and meditated at this site in the 8th century. The temple was later built by Desi Tenzin Rabgye in the 17th century. If time permits, visit the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, the site of a historic war between Tibet and Bhutan in the 17th century, and Kyichu Lhakhang, built in the 7th century during the reign of the first Buddhist Tibetan king.
