- Fourteen Falls - The Fourteen Falls Thika One Day Tour from Nairobi offers an exciting opportunity to explore the picturesque 14 waterfalls formed by the Athi River. Visitors can enjoy activities such as boating, fishing, photography, plant identification, and bird watching.
Fourteen Falls is situated in Thika, approximately 65 km northeast of Nairobi, accessible via the Thika-Garissa road, turning at Makutano junction. The name “Fourteen Falls” comes from the 14 distinct waterfalls along the wide section of the renowned Athi River.
The Fourteen Falls Thika Full Day Tour begins in Nairobi. Travelers head north for about 45 km from the city center to reach the Blue Posts Hotel in Thika, established in 1908 as a stopover for white settlers who farmed and lived in central Kenya.
At the Blue Post Hotel, visitors can explore the Thika Falls and Chania Falls, created by the convergence of the Thika and Chania rivers. A short nature trail leads to these waterfalls.
After capturing photos, the tour proceeds to the Fourteen Falls, located 15 km along the Thika/Garissa Road. The falls offer a view of the famous Kilimambogo Hill, visible from various points along the Thika Super Highway.
The falls are near the border between Thika and Machakos Districts. The fast-flowing water plunges over 25 meters into a large pool at the base, creating a loud, thundering sound that can be heard kilometers away, making the experience truly memorable.
Fourteen Falls is surrounded by stunning scenery, including lush plants and vegetation. Visitors can spend hours exploring the rocks at the base of the falls, enjoying the fresh air, breathtaking views, and local flora.
The base of the falls features large boulders and the powerful sound of water cascading down the 25-foot drop. A fine mist hangs in the air, keeping the area cool. Numerous birds can be spotted, and guides entertain visitors by performing jumps (referred to as ‘diving’) from the top of the falls into the plunge pool below. (This diving show requires a separate payment to the guides.)
Lunch is available at Oldonyo Sapuk Resort (at the visitor’s own expense), after which the tour returns to Nairobi, concluding the day’s adventure.
