- Modiano Market - Modiano stands as one of Thessaloniki’s most traditional markets. Situated in the city’s heart, it has been integral to the lives of Thessalonians for nearly 80 years. Construction began in 1922 and concluded in 1930, designed by architect Eli Modiano.
- Athonos - Bustling with energy all day, Athonos Square in the city center is cherished by both locals and tourists. It is a hub for food and nutrition, offering spices, various teas, nuts, vegetables, fruits, fish, gourmet products, and charming boutiques with clothing, handmade accessories, and decor items. The enticing aromas from the Square’s traditional taverns are captivating, offering meals at lunch and dinner, sometimes accompanied by live Greek music. To explore the traditional side of Athonos Square, visit the quaint shops selling handmade wickerwork and small wooden furniture crafted by the last skilled artisans.
- Λουλουδάδικα (Γιαχουντί Χαμάμ - Λουτρό των Εβραίων) - Louloudadika is a quaint area in the historic city center, encompassing Komninon, Frangon, and Vas. Herakliou streets, named after the old outdoor florists that once thrived there. Sadly, only four remain today. In the 1950s, there were 11 shops selling a variety of flowers, renowned even in provincial cities.
In the same neighborhood, the old Ottoman bath Yahudi Hamami, built in the 16th century, is located. The name (Yahudi = Hebrew) reflects the area’s historical Jewish presence. Once a controversial bath for both men and women, it lost its grandeur in the 1917 fire, suffering significant damage. Recently restored, the old Hamam now hosts cultural events such as the Biennale, photography exhibitions, and more.
