Thermopylae - The tour will commence from the city center of Athens, heading to the first destination of the day, Thermopylae. Known for the historic Battlefield of Thermopylae, visitors will explore Thermopylae’s Innovative Center of Historical Information and view the Statue of Leonidas.
Dion - The next stop is the quaint town of Dion. Historically, this site was a place of worship for Zeus, the king of the gods of Mount Olympus, earning it the nickname “the town of Zeus.” Dion features various sanctuaries, including the Temple of the goddess Demeter (the oldest Macedonian temple), the Temple of the goddess Isis, and the Hellenistic theater, which once hosted the Olympia nude games and now frequently serves as a venue for the Olympus Festival during the summer.
Vergina - The final attraction of the day is the small town of Vergina. Vergina is renowned as the site of ancient Aigai, considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of all time, as it was the royal and first capital of Macedon. This ancient town has always intrigued archaeologists because ancient sources describe Aigai as one of the wealthiest cities in the ancient world and a major spiritual center. Discovered in 1976 and excavated under the guidance of archaeologist Manolis Andronikos, the site revealed the burial places of many Macedonian kings, including the undisturbed tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. It also features an extensive royal palace. The archaeological museum of Vergina, built to house the artifacts found at the site, is one of Greece’s most important museums.
Kalabaka - To conclude the first day of the tour, there will be an overnight stay in Kalabaka, a charming town nestled at the base of the Meteora rocks, rich in history and significant monuments.
1) Meteora 2) Ancient Olympia 3) Corinth Canal
Meteora - The second day of the tour begins early in the morning at Meteora. Visitors will marvel at the stunning geological phenomenon of Meteora, known for its monasteries perched atop 1000-foot natural pillars and rounded boulders, attracting numerous visitors annually. Guests will learn about the monastic life in Meteora, including the monks’ habits and customs, and discover how these monasteries were constructed so high on the rocks, a true marvel. The tour includes visits to several monasteries, such as the Holy Monastery of Varlaam, Rousanou, and the Holy Trinity.
Archaeological Site of Olympia - Olympia, a small town in Elis on the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece, is famous for its nearby archaeological site, a major Panhellenic religious sanctuary of ancient Greece where the ancient Olympic Games were held. Primarily dedicated to Zeus, the site attracted visitors from across the Greek world as one of several “Panhellenic” centers that helped forge the identity of the ancient Greeks as a nation. Despite its name, Olympia is not near Mount Olympus in northern Greece, where the Twelve Olympians, the principal deities of Ancient Greek religion, were believed to reside. The tour also includes a visit to a secret refuge in the area, and a short hike to a waterfall, a hidden gem near ancient Olympia. Visitors are encouraged to bring swimsuits for a refreshing dip in the lake by the waterfall on a sunny day.
Corinth Canal - The final attraction of this remarkable tour is a visit to the Corinth Canal in Corinth, followed by a return to Athens for the tour’s conclusion.
