Exploring Angthong: A Snorkeling Adventure in Thailand
Eager to explore Thailand’s marine wonders, I embarked on the Angthong Marine Park Snorkeling Tour. With promises of exclusivity and stunning landscapes, I was ready for an adventure.
Setting Sail to Angthong
After leaving my finance job in Seoul to backpack through Southeast Asia, I’ve been on the lookout for unique experiences that won’t break the bank. When I heard about the Angthong Marine Park Snorkeling Tour, I knew it was something I had to try. The promise of an exclusive tour with a small group was too tempting to resist. I was eager to explore the marine park’s stunning landscapes and vibrant marine life.
The day began with a pick-up from my hostel in an immaculate minibus. As a budget traveler, I’m used to more rustic forms of transport, so this was a pleasant surprise. Upon arrival at the 100 Degrees East office, I was greeted with a refreshing drink and a warm welcome. The atmosphere was relaxed yet professional, and I immediately felt at ease. After a quick safety briefing and fitting for our snorkeling gear, we were ready to embark on our adventure.
Snorkeling and Serenity
Our first stop was Ko Wao Yai, a prime snorkeling spot. The guides split us into small groups, ensuring personalized attention and safety. As someone who’s snorkeled in various parts of Southeast Asia, I was thrilled to encounter marine creatures I hadn’t seen before. The guides were knowledgeable and even offered to dive down to capture photos for us. It was a thoughtful touch that made the experience even more memorable.
After snorkeling, we headed to a secluded beach for a homemade lunch. The food was delicious, and the setting was idyllic. I took the opportunity to relax under the shade of the trees, soaking in the tranquility of the surroundings. For those who wanted a bit more activity, there was an option to hike to a viewpoint, but I chose to enjoy the beach and the gentle waves.
Kayaking and Wildlife Encounters
Post-lunch, we set off for a kayaking adventure along the coastline of Angthong’s islands. Paddling through the clear waters, I couldn’t help but marvel at the limestone cliffs and lush greenery. The guides were attentive, ensuring everyone was comfortable and capturing photos along the way. It was a leisurely paddle, perfect for taking in the breathtaking scenery.
As we made our way to the next stop, we were fortunate enough to spot a whale in the distance. It was a magical moment that added an unexpected thrill to the day. Later, we visited an island known for its monkey inhabitants. Watching them playfully interact with each other was a delightful experience.
The journey back to Koh Samui was exhilarating, with the sea a bit rougher than in the morning. It was the perfect end to a day filled with adventure and relaxation. As we disembarked on the beach in front of our hotel, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the incredible experience and the new friends I’d made along the way.
