- Medina of Tetouan - The medina (old town) of Tétouan is recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The inner city is notably traditional and distinctive, featuring numerous white, predominantly low-rise houses. Throughout the city, artisans such as weavers, jewelers, and leather workers showcase their crafts. Street vendors frequently offer carpets to tourists. Tétouan is part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and was honored as the “City of Crafts and Folk Art” in 2017.
The Archaeological Museum is centrally located, just a hundred meters from the Royal Palace. It displays artifacts from various eras, representing indigenous, Phoenician, Roman, Jewish, and Arab cultures. The museum was established in 1943.
The Museum of Modern Art is situated opposite the Riad Al Ochak garden.
The Mechouar of the Royal Palace is positioned just outside and near one of the entrances to the old medina, with a public square in front.
Riad Al Ochak, meaning “Lovers’ Garden,” officially named Moulay Rachid’s Garden, is a public garden designed in the Moorish style. It is located at the base of the hills on the road leading to the Martil Valley.
The Kasbah is located at the top of Mount Dersa, where the ruins of the former Regulares barracks are found alongside a cemetery of indigenous martyrs.
Tétouan boasts an extensive coastline stretching from the Ceuta border to the road to Al Hoceima. It is particularly lively during the summer, hosting numerous international clubs, hotels, golf resorts, and marinas, including Club Med, Sofitel, and Ritz-Carlton in the Tamuda Bay area between M’diq and Fnideq. The nearest beach is the popular city of Martil, with other villages like Cabo Negro, Oued Lao, and El Jebha.
Tétouan is flanked by two mountains, Dersa and Ghorghiz. Several natural spots are available, making hiking a popular activity.
