- Shuamta Monasteries - The Dzveli Suamta architectural complex is located 7 km from Telavi. It features a 5th-century basilica, a fascinating example of Christian Georgian architecture; a 17th-century domed church similar to the Mtskheta Jvari Church but smaller (with shallower apses, a more prominent dome drum, and a distinct tromp design); and a small 7th-century domed church with a cross-shaped plan, lacking corner rooms and having equal axes. The church was constructed with cobblestones, and the corners were finished with hewn stones. The Zveli Shuamta Monastery was deserted in the 16th century.
- Shuamta Monasteries - The Akhali Shuamta Monastery was established by Tinatin Gurieli, the wife of King Levan II (1520-1574). The church, featuring a dome, was designed in a cross-shaped plan and built with brick. The interior walls were adorned with paintings, and some portraits of the founders remain intact. Irakli II later restored the church. The complex also includes a bell tower and several smaller buildings. A Chavchavadze is interred here.
- Gremi Citadel and Church of the Archangels - Gremi served as the capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti during the 16th and 17th centuries. Established by Levan of Kakheti, it was a bustling trading town on the Silk Road and a royal residence until it was destroyed by Shah Abbas I of Persia’s forces in 1615. The town never recovered its former glory, and the Kakheti kings moved their capital to Telavi in the mid-17th century.
