Discovering Ubud’s hidden treasures, one gem at a time - Greenbike’s bike 1-2day tour in Ubud is a 5+ hr tour which included breakfast, lunch and a sampling of local treats. Unexpectedly, it also included transfers from our hotel which was extraordinary value (and very convenient).
The tour explores Balinese culture and community through a scenic bike ride on quiet country roads and off the beaten track. We visited a traditional Balinese home, sampled Indonesia’s famed luwak coffee, stopped by Bali’s second largest temple and finished the tour riding through the rice fields.
The bike ride was a meandering 22 km round trip, best of all mostly downhill. Our guides ensured our road safety and remained vigilant throughout. Riding the backroads roads and narrow trails, known only to locals was a highlight. As an occasional recreational rider, I especially enjoyed the trickier trail parts that were unpaved, rocky, puddle-ridden.
Tips: As we travelled to/from Ubud from Nusa, we experienced Bali’s snarled traffic. It made for a long day but it was worthwhile.
While the torrential rain in Nusa didn’t instill confidence initially, it subsided when we arrived. Thankfully the rain cooled the day for our ride. And trust the experts at Greenbike to gauge the contingency plan.
A special thanks to our guides Amin, Ketut for providing their insights, and to Rina at Seek Sophie who responded to my questions beforehand.

So worth it!! - It was so well organised. Gade picked us up on time from our hotel, we had a lovely breakfast at a restaurant, did the cycling which is 20km just about always downhill making it very accessible. We went through rice paddies, past villages, made a stop for a local desert, saw a local house and had lunch after. There were only 3 of us. We felt safe and taken care of on the roads.

A great way to see the countryside - This tour went past our expectations. Darma the guide was excellent and told us so much about the history and traditions of the Balinese. The food was excellent and the scenery amazing.
The biking was easy and mainly downhill. We stopped at interesting places along the way and there were plenty of toilets.
The safety was good with a guide at the front and back of the group. When we crossed a road the guides would check the traffic for us.
When we were biking on the roads they were village roads so not very busy and less traffic
We went through villages and the children all yelled out hello and waved. It was fun.
The bikes were in good condition and worked well. We had no equipment issues.
The helmets all fitted and were good.
We were provided with a water bottle that was mineral water and had a sealed cap.
Would recommend.

Amazing cycling tour from Ubud - Wow! Amazing. Darma was a fantastic guide - knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic. This tour is a great way to see rural/traditional Ubud/Bali.
As a family we thoroughly enjoyed it - breath taking scenery.
The cycling itself is easy - mainly gentle gradients, downhill, and as you are awy from the towns, the traffic is light.
We also enjoyed the breakfast beforehand as well as the lunch afterwards at Greenkubu. There was also a stop for coffee/tea with the fire flies - which was fascinating.

Must do in Ubud - This bike trip far exceeded our already high expectations! Below are a few things that we loved:
- easy shuttle pick up from our desired location made the start and end of our ride stress-free
- we were given a complimentary breakfast and lunch before/after we started riding
- Darma (our tour guide), Zona and the rest of the team were very kind, full of local knowledge and passionate about their home. They ensured we were all riding at our own comfortable pace and encouraged us to stop if we saw something we wanted to take a closer look at
- we were shown how a family in Bali lives, saw temples, rice paddys and (our highlight) visited a firefly sanctuary where the team are focusing on restoring the fireflies and improving water quality.
- the bikes are very comfortable and easy to ride
- the ride took us to areas that were quiet. Often, those on our bike tour were the only tourists that we saw.
- this trip was a reprieve from the chaos of the hugely populated Ubud city.
If you are worried about fitness or skill, you don't need to! The trails are very easy, mostly on paved road and majority going downhill.
We highly recommend you book this trip too!
