Ananuri is a fortress located on the foreland by the Aragvi River, close to the Zhinvali water reservoir and approximately 70 km from Tbilisi, Georgia. The fortress is on the UNESCO Tentative list and comprises two fortifications connected by a crenelated curtain wall.
A stop at Gudauri reveals a ski resort on the south-facing plateau of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in Georgia. Situated in the Stepantsminda District along the Georgian Military Highway near the Cross Pass, it stands at an elevation of 2,200 meters above sea level, offering ski areas with maximum sun exposure. The resort provides excellent skiing opportunities. Gudauri’s slopes, entirely above the tree line, are ideal for free-riders and are generally considered avalanche-safe. The ski season extends from December to April.
The Monument or Treaty of Georgievsk Monument, constructed in 1983, commemorates the bicentennial of the Treaty of Georgievsk and the enduring friendship between Georgia and Soviet Russia. Positioned on the Georgian Military Highway between the ski resort town of Gudauri and the Jvari pass, the monument is a large circular stone and concrete structure overlooking the Devil’s Valley in the Caucasus mountains.
