• Redwoods, Whakarewarewa Forest - Our first stop is the renowned Redwoods Forest. Cross the swing bridges and walkways high in the forest, and learn about this unique ecosystem. Inhale the fresh, clean air, and watch for native birdlife as you explore the numerous walkways and bridges. This is an exceptional activity and one of our absolute favorites in the region. You also have the option to visit the Glow Worm Caves for an additional $15NZD.
• Whakarewarewa - The Living Maori Village - Next, we visit the famous Whakarewarewa Living Maori Village. We believe this is the best opportunity in New Zealand to truly experience and learn about our indigenous people, their lifestyle, and history, from real descendants of this significant local tribe.

Enjoy a high-quality cultural show followed by a fully guided tour of the village. Witness the active geothermal springs and geysers up close, taste corn cooked in the village cooking spring, and learn about the incredible connection between this and other volcanic areas worldwide. The Pohutu Geyser is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, shooting 30M high approximately once per hour! It is an exciting spectacle to witness!

You will have the opportunity to purchase lunch and visit the museum at this location as well.

• Okere Falls - On our return journey, we stop to view the tallest commercially rafted waterfall in the world! We often see rafters and kayakers navigating the falls, but even if they are not present, it’s a breathtaking sight. Depending on time and fitness levels, there are different walking distance options: 1 minute (top of the falls), 12 minutes each way (best viewing area), 15 minutes each way (includes Hinemoa’s steps and takes you to the base of the falls as well). This is yet another highlight of this stunning day trip.

We return to Tauranga with ample time for the ship, passing by kiwifruit farms and beautiful lakes along the way.

Upon arrival back in Mount Maunganui, we can drop you off at the ship or at the main Mount beach.
