One of the prominent heritage structures is Taqah Castle (also known as Taqa Castle or Taqah Fort). Constructed in the 19th century as a residence for Sheikh Ali bin Timman Al Ma’shani, it was later used by local governors. The castle was restored in the early 1990s and now serves as a museum and cultural site, showcasing traditional architecture, local artifacts, and rooms that depict the old administrative functions.

Taqah Beach & Corniche

The beach is sandy and inviting, ideal for relaxation, walking, and photography. There are shaded areas and small structures along the corniche for sitting.

• Wadi Darbat - Seasonal Waterfalls: The waterfalls in Wadi Darbat can cascade from heights of approximately 30 to 100 meters, especially during the monsoon season.

Wildlife: The area is home to camels, goats, and occasionally cattle grazing. Birdlife is abundant, including migratory species and some rare species in the region.

Caves & Geological Features: The area features limestone caves and rock formations, along with springs, cliffs, valleys, and hillsides. There are also views from cliff-tops and vantage points overlooking the valley.

Lakes & Pools: A spring-fed lake remains wet year-round to some extent. During the Khareef, it swells and becomes more dramatic, with small turquoise pools forming under waterfalls and in basin areas.

Vegetation & Greenery: During Khareef, the area is lush with grasses, trees (including acacias, sidr, etc.), shrubs, and mountainous greenery. Outside Khareef, some greenery and water persist, especially near springs or the lake.

• Jabal Samhan - Jabal Samhan Mountain Elevation: Peaks reach around 2,100 meters above sea level. Also spelled Jebel Samhan or Mount Samhan, it is a mountain massif and nature reserve in the Dhofar Governorate of southern Oman. The reserve covers about 4,500 square kilometers, characterized by rugged, largely uninhabited terrain. It was officially designated as a protected area in 1997 under Royal Decree to conserve its flora, fauna, and unique ecosystems.

Terrain: The area features limestone highlands rising sharply from the coastal plain, with steep escarpments, deep narrow mountain passes, canyons, wadis, and cliffs.

• Salalah - Salalah experiences a hot desert climate overall, but it is distinguished by the Khareef season (monsoon) from June to September, when the typically arid landscape becomes lush, green, and misty. During Khareef, cooler temperatures, clouds, dew, occasional light rain or drizzle, and waterfalls appear, and vegetation flourishes. Outside of this season, the climate is dry, with higher temperatures and less greenery.
