Discovering Hidden Treasures in Eastern Salalah
Taqah Castle - The journey begins in Taqah, where visitors explore the castle and the beach. Constructed 300 years ago by a Wali, the castle provides a remarkable glimpse into historical life. Visitors can find ancient daily items, furniture, clothing, and traditional jewelry.
Taqah Beach - Taqah Beach captivates with its pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters. A nearby cliff offers a stunning view of the expansive beach.
Wadi Darbat - This tour immerses visitors in the natural beauty of eastern Salalah, showcasing the wonders of nature and human culture. The first stop is Wadi Darbat in the Quara Mountains, where numerous waterfalls and striking rock formations attract local wildlife to the riverbed.
Jabal Samhan - Jebel Samhan, the highest point in the Dhofar region, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the landscape. The mountain’s peak is often above the clouds, adding to the unique experience.
Salalah - Baobab trees, typically found in African ecosystems, also thrive in Oman. Approximately 200 of these endangered trees grow in Dhofar, with some estimated to be over 300 years old.
Earth Gravity Controversy - The Anti-Gravity Point, located on a hill between Mirbat and Salalah, is a fascinating phenomenon where a car in neutral gear can travel uphill at speeds up to 35 km/h. Various theories exist about this marvel, and perhaps visitors can solve the mystery.
Discovering the Lively City and the Enchanting West of Salalah
Sultan Qaboos Mosque - The Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Salalah, though smaller than its Muscat counterpart, accommodates 3,200 worshippers. Its interior exudes a light and airy feel, thanks to bright, welcoming colors and windows that allow ample natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere. The Ladies Prayer Hall is located on the mosque’s north side, inaugurated in 2009.
Al-Husn Souq - The tour continues with a visit to the Souq, a traditional market where visitors can enjoy the friendly ambiance and purchase traditional perfumes, frankincense, clothing, or souvenirs.
Al Hosn Palace - Al-Hosn Palace, the Sultan’s summer residence, can be admired from the outside.
Museum of the Frankincense Land - En route to The Frankincense Land Museum, visitors can purchase fresh fruit or coconut drinks from roadside stalls. The museum, adjacent to the Al Baleed Archaeological Park, is divided into six sections: Oman’s Geography, Ancient Oman, the Land of Frankincense, Islamization of Oman, Omani History, and Oman’s Renaissance.
Al Mughsail Beach - Descending from the mountains, visitors head west to the popular Mughsail Beach. The first stop is the picturesque sandy beach, dotted with gazebos and palm trees, offering shade and a serene setting to enjoy the ocean’s waves. The mountains’ proximity to the ocean provides spectacular views.
Marneef Cave - Another highlight at Mughsail is the blowholes, where seawater bursts through the rock, reaching heights of up to 28 meters during peak season. High tide during Khareef offers the best views, but the phenomenon can be seen at high tides year-round. Between the beach and blowholes, visitors pass a lagoon, a sanctuary for birds migrating between Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Fazayah Beach - The drive to Fazayah Bay, approximately 80 km west of Salalah, is an adventure, passing Mughsail Beach and winding through Wadi Afawl’s hairpin turns to Jebel Qamar’s heights. The view from above resembles a ship’s lookout, with sea breezes and unobstructed horizons, alongside steep rocky cliffs with unique formations. A steep but accessible path leads to several sandy beaches, perfect for swimming in the Indian Ocean. Meanwhile, the tour guide prepares fresh fruit, snacks, and cold drinks. Depending on the time of day, visitors can watch the sunset and capture beautiful holiday memories.
Enchanting Sunset Experience in the Empty Quarter Desert
Wadi Dawkha - A certified tour guide picks up guests from their hotel in an air-conditioned 4x4 jeep. The journey through Salalah’s stunning landscape offers a chance to admire nature’s biodiversity. Passing through camel herds, the first stop is Wadi Dawkah, a large natural garden and UNESCO Heritage Site, home to around 1,200 frankincense trees. The guide explains frankincense cultivation, varieties, and uses.
Thumrait - The journey continues to Thumrait for a traditional lunch and Arabic coffee (qahwa) with dates. Known as a historic Bedouin settlement, Thumrait played a significant role in the ancient Frankincense Trading Route from southern Oman to the Mediterranean.
Empty Quarter - The Empty Quarter, the world’s largest sand desert, spans the Arabian Peninsula, including parts of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Yemen, and Oman. The desert features vast sand dunes up to 250 meters high and hosts unique desert flora and fauna. Visitors can ride the dunes in a 4x4 vehicle, climb the dunes, and enjoy the stunning sunset. This unforgettable experience is captured in photos and videos by the tour guide, allowing guests to cherish and share the moment with loved ones. On the return to the hotel, a stop at a traditional Omani restaurant for dinner concludes the evening.
