A Laid-Back Start to the Day

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself standing outside the Le Tahiti resort, surfboard in hand, ready for a day of exploration. The salty breeze carried the promise of adventure, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement. Our guide, Antoinette, arrived promptly, her warm smile and infectious energy setting the tone for the day. As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve met my fair share of guides, but Antoinette’s passion for Tahiti was truly something special.

As we set off on our journey, Antoinette’s knowledge of the island’s history and culture was evident. She shared stories of Captain Cook and Captain Bligh, painting vivid pictures of their adventures at Venus Point. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and I found myself hanging onto every word. Next, we ventured to the Maraa Grotto, where the lush forest and cool caves provided a welcome respite from the sun. The air was filled with the scent of tropical flowers, and the sound of water trickling through the grotto was like music to my ears. Antoinette surprised us with a treat of local pineapple, sprinkled with a unique Chinese candy powder. The combination of sweet and tangy flavors was a delightful revelation.

As the day continued, we visited the Water Gardens of Vaipahi, a botanical paradise that felt like stepping into a dream. The vibrant colors of the flowers and the gentle cascade of the waterfall created a serene atmosphere that was hard to leave behind. Antoinette’s thoughtful gesture of bringing bread for us to feed the eels added a touch of whimsy to the experience.

Our final stop was the iconic Pointe Venus, where the black sand beach stretched out before us. The lighthouse, designed by Robert Louis Stevenson’s father, stood proudly against the azure sky. As I stood there, taking in the breathtaking view, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to explore such a beautiful place.

As we made our way back to the resort, I reflected on the experiences of the day, feeling enriched and inspired.
