Taos Plaza - The history of Taos Plaza dates back to 1796 when the King of Spain allocated land to 63 families, establishing it as the primary settlement in the area following Taos Pueblo. The plaza was originally designed as a fortified village, featuring homes arranged in large quadrangles with a central gate. It served as a safe haven for livestock and a center for trade fairs. Although many buildings were destroyed by fire, the structures surrounding the plaza today mostly date from the 1930s. Now the centerpiece of the Taos Historic District, the plaza is a vibrant location for live music, farmers markets, and is a favorite destination for shopping and galleries.

La Hacienda de los Martinez - Constructed in 1804, La Hacienda de los Martinez is a rare example of a “Great House” from the Spanish Colonial era in northern New Mexico. Once a bustling trade center, it boasts massive adobe walls and was the residence of Severino Martinez, his wife Maria, and their six children, including the notable Padre Antonio Martinez. Padre Antonio was a significant social reformer, establishing New Mexico’s first coeducational school and introducing the first printing press to Taos. Today, the Hacienda provides a window into 1800s frontier life with 21 rooms surrounding two courtyards and demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts.

Taos Art Museum at Fechin House - Explore the Taos Art Museum to enjoy breathtaking exhibitions within the beautiful home and studio that the esteemed artist Nicolai Fechin meticulously designed and constructed by hand.
In 1923, Russian-American artist Nicolai Fechin and his family immigrated to the U.S. and later relocated to Taos in 1926 at the invitation of Mabel Dodge Luhan. In 1927, they acquired the home of Dr. J.J. Bergmans. However, the two-story adobe house did not meet their requirements, prompting them to remodel. Over the next five years, Nicolai, with assistance from masons from Taos Pueblo, transformed the house into their dream home using a cardboard model as a guide.
