Good Value for Money – Convenient Pick-Up and Drop-Off - I took a tour to Mnemba Island that included snorkeling and swimming with dolphins. The tour offered good value for the money, and the pick-up and drop-off were smooth and well-organized, which made the experience even more convenient.
Our group had a boat for eight people, along with a captain and a guide. Both did a great job—the captain advised us when to jump in to see the dolphins, and the guide led the swimming and helped take some nice underwater photos.
My main reason for taking this tour was to see dolphins in the wild, and I was glad we got to do that. We jumped in a few times and saw them under the water. It’s not like swimming with dolphins in a pool—it's more about watching them as they dive deep and move away from people.
The snorkeling part of the trip was enjoyable, although the sandbank beach was very crowded. Unfortunately, it started raining heavily at the end, so we didn’t get to enjoy the beach as much as we had hoped.
Overall, I got what I was looking for. I did feel a bit sorry for the dolphins—there were around ten boats chasing them, with people jumping in every time they appeared. It felt a bit hectic. Maybe a private tour would offer a better chance to wait calmly and see the dolphins without the crowd, which would make the experience even more special.

Incredible experience! Will do this again! - Fantastic! Delivered on our expectations. Both Boat Captain and Guide were vey helpful. We all felt safe and happy. My 2 kids 8 and 11 were in their element, jumped in an out of the water to swim with the dolphins with ease. They are strong swimmers and didn't need life jackets ( there were plenty if needed). Snorkeling equipment was new and of a good quality. Flippers for kids would help them swim faster but I guess difficult to carry kids sizes. Maybe bring your own pair if travelling with kids. They managed to provide flippers for my husband when he asked. The snorkeling was incredible, an abundance and variety of fish, starfish amongst the coral reefs and even managed to spot an octopus briefly. I will recommended this tour to everyone.

Dolphins and ocean views - We loved the experience of seeing the dolphins in the open ocean and eating fresh fruit on beautiful Mnemba Island atoll. The captain did everything he could to get us as close as possible to the dolphins. It was incredible to be in the water with them swimming near and below us. The water was a little rough that day, so the other crew member offered to jump in and get some underwater video for us. It was amazing! Both crew members were very friendly and accommodating. Captain Barnaba was very good about communicating pick up locations and times. Highly recommend this tour!

Fantastic experience! - Staff knew what they were doing, good boat, decent gear, knowledge of the best spots. We saw the dolphins and had a proper close encounter, went snorkelling and saw many amazing fish species, went to the star fish spot, and had a good lunch on the sand bank. Great tour, amazing sights, and the guides were ethical in their conduct with the marine life. Would certainly recommend it!

Nice snorkelling - My sister & I did this tour with Ludo as our guide. There were 6 others on our boat, and it seemed a little larger and sturdier than some others.
When we got to the snorkelling spot Ludo swam with a safety ring, in case anyone needed assistance or if they were tired. He pointed out eels and other interesting things in the water and even took some footage on my go pro for me quite deep below the water.
Next we headed to a sandbank, though the tide hadn't dropped enough yet so it was still covered in shallow water. Ludo and our guide prepared some fruit for the boat.
The swimming with the dolphins was the last part of the tour. If you're expecting a serene experience, this isn't for you. The reality is a bunch of boats around a pod of dolphins and people jumping into the water with them, while they for the most part swim below you and then resurface. We didn't jump in the water and instead admired from the boat. I was a little concerned about whether the dolphins enjoy it, but presumably they'd swim away if not.
The boat then took us back to the meeting point. As we had been picked up from our hotel by boat in the morning at high tide, and the tide was now quite low, Ludo offered to have us driven back by car at no charge which was nice. We chose to walk, so we can't comment on the potential transfer.
Overall it was enjoyable, though next time I'd skip the dolphins and do more snorkelling.

Best tour on the island!!! - We had an absolutely incredible experience with Captain Barnaba Excursions! From start to finish, everything was smooth, fun, and unforgettable. Our guide Ali Kwao and super captain Juma were amazing — knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about what they do.
We spotted a huge school of dolphins almost immediately, and thanks to Juma’s expert navigation, we were able to get right up close for an unforgettable, in-person encounter. It was magical!
Afterward, we headed to a stunning sandbar with crystal-clear water, where we relaxed and enjoyed some amazing snorkeling. The marine life was vibrant and abundant. To top it all off, they treated us to a fresh fruit platter — a perfect touch to an already perfect day.
We can’t recommend this experience enough. If you’re visiting the area, don’t miss this. And definitely ask for Ali Kwao and supercapten Juma — they’ll make sure your trip is truly one to remember!

Fun! Good but not great. - This experience was good, but not great. The pick-up area at the dock was chaotic and not professionally run. The guys who ran the boat were terrific - lots of fun. However, the equipment that was rented was not good - most of us had trouble with the masks and snorkels. We raced around looking for dolphins and were directed to jump into the water when we saw them, which felt a bit unsafe amidst a clamor of other boats. The fruit was wonderful, and our guys sang - very nice. But we weren't given a ton of time to snorkel and were just taken to one area in the reef area.
