  Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft) 
Elevation Gain: 915 meters, 3,000 feet

The journey begins with an early morning departure from Moshi to Marangu Gate, which is about a one-hour drive. After completing the registration at the gate, the Kilimanjaro Day Hike commences. The trail is narrow and winds through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro, leading up to Mandara Hut. Along the way, hikers will encounter climbers making their descent from the summit. Upon reaching Mandara Hut, lunch will be served, and there will be an opportunity to take a brief walk to the Maundi Crater. On a clear day, the views to the East over Taveta and to the Northwest towards Mawenzi Peak are breathtaking, making the short hike highly rewarding. There will be a chance to capture photos at Maundi Crater before heading back down to Marangu Gate. Transportation will be ready at Marangu Gate to return to Moshi.

Kilimanjaro Day Hike: A Sneak Peek Climb
Embark on an exciting climb up the slopes of Africa’s tallest mountain to reach the first base camp of the Marangu Route. Standing at 5,895 meters, Kilimanjaro is a breathtaking sight that captivates visitors as they fly into Kilimanjaro Airport. The mountain’s rainforest zone is dense and vibrant, providing a habitat for a variety of bird and monkey species, including blue monkeys and colobus. Be sure to listen carefully to catch the sounds of Kilimanjaro’s inhabitants.
