Following this, a vehicle journey of approximately 3-4 hours will take them to Londorossi Gate, the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park (2,250 meters/7,381 feet). From there, the trek begins towards the first camp on this route: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 meters/8,694 feet). Raincoats are necessary for this day as the trail passes through a rainforest. Upon arrival at the camp, the skilled mountain crew will have already organized all necessary preparations, including setting up tents and starting lunch preparations.
Trekking From Mkubwa Camp To Shira 1 Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - The day starts with an early wake-up call and a hearty breakfast to fuel the adventure. The group will then embark on a trek, gradually ascending to an altitude of 3,500 meters (11,483 feet). At this point, they will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau and the majestic Kibo Volcano, offering a captivating vista for the first time.
Trekking from Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2
Mount Kilimanjaro - The journey continues from Shira 1 Camp (3,610 meters/11,843 feet) towards the second high-altitude camp, Shira 2 Camp (3,850 meters/12,631 feet). This trek is relatively manageable, allowing participants to enjoy the striking vistas of the African savannah, the distinctive flora of Kilimanjaro, and the surrounding terrain. Weather permitting, Shira 2 Camp is the prime location to catch sight of Mount Meru, the fifth-highest summit in Africa and the second-highest in Tanzania.
Upon reaching the camp, a satisfying lunch will be served, followed by a two-hour rest period. The group will then embark on an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp, involving a moderate altitude gain of 300 meters (984 feet).
Trekking From Shira Camp 2 to Lava Tower and Descent to Barranco Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - The journey continues as the group departs from Shira 2 Camp (3,850 meters/12,631 feet) and heads towards a significant point on the route: Lava Tower (4,600 meters/15,091 feet). This section features numerous ascents and descents, ultimately concluding at a camp situated at an altitude exceeding 4,600 meters (15,090 feet). While some segments may be challenging and discomfort is not uncommon, spending at least 1-2 hours at this location is essential for effective acclimatization. This is where lunch will be enjoyed.
Subsequently, the descent leads to Barranco Camp (3,900 meters/12,795 feet).
Trekking Barranco to Karangu Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, the journey continues with the hike to Barafu Summit Camp (4,673 meters/15,331 feet), the starting point for the night summit to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters/19,340 feet).
