Moshi/Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park - Begin your African Big Five safari with a morning pickup from your hotel, heading to Lake Manyara National Park. Established in 1960, this compact park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions, elephants, and large groups of baboons and monkeys. The park features a shallow, alkaline lake and diverse habitats such as grassy plains, escarpments, and forests. It is a haven for hundreds of bird species, most notably thousands of pink flamingos. Alongside the breathtaking scenery, you may encounter giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, wildebeests, and the amusing warthog. The safari vehicle, equipped with an open roof, provides an excellent platform for viewing the park’s natural beauty and wildlife. In the late afternoon, you will depart the park and head to the lodge for an overnight stay.
Lake Manyara Area to Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, embark on an early drive through the fertile crater highlands, admiring the lush crop fields of wheat, corn, and coffee. By midday, you will arrive at the expansive plains of Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s largest park. The Serengeti is known for its varied landscapes, including short grass plains, savannahs, dense bush, swamps, and lakes, and is famous for the annual migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras in search of fresh grass and water. As you travel to your accommodation, you will understand the meaning of “Serengeti” (plains in the Masai language). You will reach the lodge in the early evening for an overnight stay.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Spend the entire day on a game drive in Serengeti National Park. During the short rainy season in November and December, herds move from the northern hills to the southern plains, while in the longer rainy season from April to June, they return north. This life cycle is dictated by rainfall, and the herds’ locations may vary annually, but your guide will know the best spots to find and view the animals. A visit to the Serengeti Visitor Centre is also an option, where you can learn about the park’s history and the research conducted by the Frankfurt Zoological Society. Enjoy another night at the lodge.
Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Ngorongoro Conservation Area - After breakfast, continue your African Big Five safari in Serengeti National Park. In the Seronera Valley, you might witness predators hunting as animals gather at water sources during the dry season. Following a picnic lunch, you will gradually make your way towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Upon arrival, you will be treated to a stunning view of the caldera. This approximately 20 km wide crater is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to over 20,000 animals. You will stay at a lodge, possibly on the crater rim, where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset.
Ngorongoro Crater to Moshi/Arusha
Ngorongoro Crater - Rise and shine! After breakfast, descend the steep path into the world’s largest, unbroken, and unflooded caldera, the “Ngorongoro Crater.” The crater is not only a scenic marvel but also hosts an incredible diversity of wildlife, including zebras, the rare black rhino, and other members of the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. The crater is also home to other animals such as hyenas, waterbucks, bushbucks, eland, and over 500 bird species. After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch, you will leave the caldera in the early afternoon and return to Moshi/Arusha, arriving in the early evening.
