Enjoy a three-hour safari that offers the opportunity to discover the incredible Bundala National Park. Recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, an Important Bird Area by Birdlife International, and the first Ramsar site in Sri Lanka, Bundala is located on the southern coast and features a low country dry zone climate with five saltwater lagoons. The park is home to a diverse range of plant life, many of which are aquatic.
The safari provides a chance to observe many of the 324 animal species found in Bundala. Small elephant herds roam the park, and visitors may also spot langurs, pangolins, barking deer, sambar, various deer species, wild boar, rusty-spotted cats, black-naped hares, and jackals. These are just a few examples.
Bundala is renowned for its crocodile population, being the only park in Sri Lanka where both the freshwater (mugger) crocodile and the estuarine crocodile can be seen. Other reptiles include tortoises, numerous snake species including the endemic flying snake, and turtles, including all five globally endangered sea turtle species that nest in Sri Lanka.
The park is also a sanctuary for nearly 200 bird species during peak migration. Thousands of greater flamingos migrate here to escape winter. Visitors may also see various cormorant species, ducks like the lesser whistling duck or garganey, spoonbills, storks such as the painted or black-necked stork, and other birds like the Eurasian coot.
After the safari, guests will return to their vehicle and head back to the hotel in Tangalle by 6:30 pm, concluding the tour.
