The surrounding area is perfect for hiking around Denali National Park. With some luck, you might spot grizzlies, the natural emblem of the subarctic, and a highlight for many travelers.

Valdez and Shoup Glacier kayak excursion

Valdez - This included kayaking tour provides a personal experience at one of Alaska’s stunning marine state parks. Board a motorboat for a water taxi ride to Shoup Bay, where the scenic journey begins. Throughout the day, paddle up a fjord revealed by a retreating glacier, past a nesting colony of black-legged kittiwakes, along a lush, waterfall-laden coastline, and towards the glacier’s face. Enjoy a short beach walk and a lunch spot with a spectacular glacier view. At the end of the paddle, the motorboat will pick you up for the return ride to Valdez.

This evening, enjoy a meal out at a local Valdez favorite, self-pay!
