- Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon - Established by King U-Thong, the first ruler of Ayutthaya, in 1357 AD, Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon served as a meditation retreat for monks returning from pilgrimages to Sri Lanka. The grand chedi was erected in 1592 by King Naresuan The Great to celebrate his triumph over Burma (now Myanmar) that same year.
- Wat Mahathat - Renowned for the “Buddha head in tree roots,” Wat Mahathat was a significant monastery in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was not only a religious hub and housed Buddha relics but also functioned as a royal monastery.
- Wat Phra Sri Sanphet - Known as “The holiest temple of ancient Ayutthaya,” Wat Phra Sri Sanphet was the most magnificent and beautiful temple in the capital, serving as a model for Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) in Bangkok.
- Wat Phu Khao Thong (Golden Mount) - Constructed in 1569 by Bayinnaung the Great of Hantawaddy (now part of Myanmar) to mark his victory over Ayutthaya, Wat Phu Khao Thong is a beloved landmark of the ancient city. Chill day of temple tours at Ayutthava - I chose this tour as it had pickup at hotel and started early.
I was picked up at 640am and we reached the first temple slightly after 9am.
we went to (in order):
Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
Wat Phra Mahathat
Wat Phra Sri Sanphet
[lunch of about 40 mins] - nice!
Wat Lokayasutharam
Wat Phu Khao Tong
The other temple Wat Chaiwatthanaram was not part of tour but seeing Wat Phu Khao Tong was something different 😍
Wonderful tour guide!

Improved organization - The place to visit is worth it, but the organization is better, the van we were in had little space that could not fit the legs, and I did not reach the 1.70
