Great and easy walking tour - This is my second trip to Japan. I have taken several walking tours before, and toured sensoji once last year, Today's tour was easy and covered so much more both in depth and variety. I especially liked the shrines in the Ueno park. Mia, the guide, was great. Funny and well informed. She obviously loves Japan and everything Japanese, and wanted to share and show it all. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

A Deep Dive into Tokyo’s Living History – A Must for Architecture & Culture Enthusiasts - As an American architect with a deep interest in urban history and vernacular design, the Tokyo Old Town Discovery Tour was nothing short of fascinating. This tour peels back the hyper-modern surface of Tokyo to reveal its richly layered past — a side of the city that too often goes unnoticed by visitors. Our guide was not only knowledgeable but also deeply passionate about the neighborhoods we explored, from Yanaka to Nezu and Sendagi. These areas, relatively untouched by WWII bombings and modern redevelopment, offer a rare glimpse into Tokyo’s pre-war charm — narrow winding alleys, wooden facades, beautifully aged temples, and mom-and-pop shops that have stood for generations. What stood out to me most was how well the tour highlighted the juxtaposition between old and new — Edo-period shrines nestled next to mid-century residential structures, and modern interventions that respectfully nod to tradition. It was a thoughtful narrative on how Tokyo has adapted over time without fully erasing its past. From a design standpoint, walking through these neighborhoods was an education in materiality, scale, and community-oriented urban planning. The guide even pointed out subtle architectural details I would have missed on my own — from hidden carpentry joints in temple eaves to the clever use of space in tiny row homes. If you’re a fellow architect, designer, or simply someone who appreciates culture beyond tourist hotspots, this tour is worth every moment. It’s not just a walk through old Tokyo — it’s a walk through time. Highly recommended.

Fun and Learning Tour - The tour brought local views of the big and small details. An experience that is a gateway to Japan in general and Tokyo in particular especially for those who are their first encounter with Japan.

A Fascinating Look at Old Tokyo – Just Not My Taste in Lunch - The Tokyo Old Town Discovery Walk was a captivating experience, offering a thoughtful glimpse into the city’s traditional side. The guide was knowledgeable, and the pace allowed for genuine appreciation of the historic neighborhoods. My only critique is the choice of lunch—it simply didn’t suit my tastes. While I respect the intention to offer something local, I would have preferred a different style of cuisine. That aside, the tour was thoroughly enjoyable and well worth doing.
