- Kaminarimon Gate - This gate is unrelated to Thor, the god of thunder.
It marks the entrance to the Sensoji domain, the main temple in Asakusa and one of the most renowned in the country.
- Senso-ji Temple - As a key symbol of Asakusa, visitors will walk with their guide to the main building of Sensoji Temple, dedicated to the goddess of mercy, and learn about Buddhism, as well as some aspects related to Shinto, gaining insights from the guide.
- Nakamise Shopping Street (Kaminarimon) - This shopping street is highly popular on social media.
While it is very touristy, this street and its surroundings are a must-visit for anyone traveling to Japan for the first time.
After reaching Sensoji Temple, visitors will have free time to explore Nakamise-Dori and meet their guide back at the main entrance, at the Kaminarimon.
This free time is the first opportunity for snacking, as the tour does NOT include a formal lunch break, to maximize time efficiently.
- Ameyoko Shopping Street - Less touristy and more authentic than Nakamise-Dori, visitors can stroll through “Ameyoko” Shopping Street in Ueno and enjoy a second food/drink break before proceeding to the next destination.
- Ueno Park - Stroll through the beautiful Ueno Park, admiring its stunning creations, pagodas, temples, and shrines, while learning about its cultural significance to modern Japan.
The focus will be on the south side, as the north is primarily about the zoo and the Tokyo National Museum.
- Meiji Jingu Shrine - Explore the Meiji Jingu Shrine domain and learn about one of Japan’s most famous emperors, the Meiji Emperor.
- Takeshita Street - Near the east side of Meiji Jingu, visitors can explore the eccentric Takeshita Dori, showcasing a striking contrast between traditional and modern architecture.
- Omotesando - Proceed to Omotesando Station, offering a perfect opportunity to admire a very modern area, emphasizing architectural creations and luxury.
- Shibuya Crossing - Arrive at the famous Shibuya Station and experience the bustling Shibuya Scramble Crossing, one of the world’s most renowned intersections.
- Hachiko - Then, head down the street, cross it twice, and visit the statue of Hachiko to hear one of the most touching true dog stories ever told.
The tour concludes at Shibuya Station. Participants are then free to explore further or return to their hotel, with the guide’s assistance to ensure they know which line to take.
