Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) was originally constructed in 942 by Taira no Kimimasa and later relocated to its current site. It has been destroyed by fire multiple times and was last rebuilt in 1960, thanks to a donation from Konosuke Matsushita. Its official name is “Fūraijinmon,” derived from the two statues flanking the gate, representing the thunder god and the wind god, who safeguard Sensoji Temple from floods and fires.
