Learning the art of Ikebana - I had the most beautiful two hours in Yanaka learning the art of Ikebana. My teacher taught in the style of Ohara which is one of three styles. I learned about symmetry and balance using less than a handful of flowers. After a review we went to the flower shop and I chose the flowers I wanted to use for my design with the guidance of my teacher. I love what we created using a few different flowers and now I know how to design with a flower frog or Kenzan as it’s called in Japanese. I highly recommend this class and to also walk around Yanaka. The people are so lovely and there were many shops to visit.

Very nice class - This was a very nice and almost private lesson in how to make flower arrangements by two wonderful ladies. They were super nice and very skilled in what they are doing. I’m not sure if this was a coincidence but we were the only people who attended this class. That made it very special as all the attention was devoted just for us. At the end my wife and I made two beautiful ikebana arrangements. Don’t be afraid if you’ve never done that before. The instructors will be very helpful and understanding and will explain all the details in English. PS. Expect to bring some cash (around 1000 yen per person) extra that will be needed to buy flowers. Those were not included.

Must do! Wonderful memory :) - We can’t recommend this ikebana experience enough! Our guides were so gracious in leading us in a learning and enjoyable activity! We asked many questions about Ikebana, Japanese language, and Japanese culture and they were happy to answer all of our questions. It was truly an experience of a lifetime- Will not forget. Thank you for making this a highlight of our three- week trip in Japan!

A fun and interesting introduction to ikebana - An excellent introduction to the art of ikebana. Very easy to find and in an interesting area of itself. The instructor and translator were fun and engaging and we came away with a better understanding of ikebana; having made some reasonable creations. We would highly recommend as an interesting experience.

Unique experience - Unique experience! I wasn't a fan of flower arrangements until I took classes. I learned more about the history of Japan and the reason why these arrangements are made. I felt that I was being involved in their culture and I took great knowledge to share with others. Super recommended and you don't have to be a flower lover to take classes, just want to learn more about Japanese culture

Incredible Private Ikebana Workshop - We had an amazing experience learning about Ikebana with Fuji and Kosa. They were both extremely knowledgeable and patient with us as we learned and practiced the art of Ikebana. They began by teaching us about the rules and features of arranging the flowers and then took us to the flower shop to buy flowers of our choosing. We then practiced on our own with their guidance. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to learn about Ikebana!

Inspirational Introduction to Ikebana - This class was a wonderful introduction to Ikebana. Of course it is a hands on course, you will arrange flowers of your own choosing, but the history and significance of this art form are presented to add depth of knowledge to the experience. My instructor, Fuji, belongs to the Ohara school, but basic principles, applicable to all schools of Ikebana, are encouraged to begin your learning. I had never taken an Ikebana class before, so my level of instruction was more basic, but it is clear Fuji’s mastery of Ikebana would be beneficial for even experienced students. I was also assisted by an English translator, Mitsou, who helped to make sure the finer points of instruction were understood. Mitsou also documented the experience with photos and videos for me! I cannot complete the review without promoting the charming neighbourhood of Yanaka, where the course is held. Be sure to allow extra time to walk around this little haven of “old Tokyo”. Lovely independent shops and eateries, a nice break from the pace of the city that surrounds it.
