This calligraphy lesson is a cultural experience program provided by the Tourist Information Center in Yanaka. Both children and adults are welcome to participate in this enjoyable program. Although calligraphy is often seen as a complex art form, it can be quite enjoyable. Friendly and experienced Sensei will guide you through the process!

Amazing personalized calligraphy class - The experience was lovely. The sensei was so knowledgeable and very patient with me as I learned. I had so much fun chatting with her. The price is reasonable and they made me feel very special.

Fun way to learn an ancient art - We had a wonderful time learning how to write kanji characters. Our teacher was very friendly, helpful, encouraging, and enthusiastic! Instructions were clear and simple, and all our questions were answered quickly. She took pictures of us while we practiced. We were able to practice many times before writing on our final framed board. Super fun and a great souvenir to take home!

A fun way to appreciate the art of calligraphy - We came as part of a tour. I didn’t know what to expect but i was pleasantly surprised. We sat at tables of 5. We had a main instructor and each table had assistants. Each person had supplies set up with a calligraphy brush, ink bowl and practice paper. The main instructor taught us how to hold the brush and we formed our first character together. Afterwards, they gave us several words to chose from To practice calligraphy. It was such a great experience, we had a lot of fun as a group admiring each other’s work and the assistants were very encouraging. We got to make our final piece on a board for a souvenir. I would recommend this wonderful cultural experience. It helps to appreciate the beautiful art of calligraphy.

Must do - To do absolutely! Memorable experience in a quiet, caring and really friendly Mood. Excellent Welcoming, our teacher was attentive, pedagogical, encouraging, patient and very friendly. We had a good time and we take “our works” home as a souvenir. And in addition the neighborhood is charming and to visit. Thanks again.

Japanese Caligraphy! - This was a very fun, hands-on experience. We learned a lot while having a great time! The instructor was wonderful, spoke great English, and made this a very enjoyable activity for all of us. We are going home with art worthy of framing.
