Once everyone has gathered, the tour officially begins, and the guide will lead the group to the first stop – Kaminarimon Gate! This impressive entrance to the Senso-ji temple complex stands tall, inviting guests to explore.
Participants will enjoy a guided tour of the ancient and historic Senso-ji temple and Asakusa shrine complex, located in the heart of Asakusa. The tour includes the magnificent Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise Dori, Asakusa Shrine, and Senso-ji temple. There will also be some free time for personal exploration, photography, and shopping. Don’t miss the chance to sample some street food and local delicacies available at Nakamise Dori!
- Miyamoto-Unosuke Drum Museum - After exploring the temple complex and shops, the group will walk to a Taiko museum, a short distance from the first destination. Here, the guide will share insights into the traditional Japanese art of Taiko drumming, Japanese Matsuri (Festivals), and Mikoshi (Portable shrines). Participants will have the opportunity to try playing traditional Taiko drums and experience the power of these incredible instruments! There is also a fantastic gift shop to browse for unique souvenirs.
- Hoppy Street - It’s time for lunch! The group will head to Asakusa’s popular dining district, where the guide will provide a brief tour and introduction to the area’s history and Izakaya culture. Participants will then enjoy a lunch break, exploring and sampling local cuisine at their leisure.
- Kappabashi Street (Kappabashi Dogugai) - Next, the group will walk to Kappabashi, also known as Kitchen Town. Here, a guided tour will cover the history and significance of the area, followed by free time for personal exploration and shopping. After leaving Kappabashi, there will be a quick stop at a craft center, where the guide will discuss traditional Japanese crafts.
- Honryuin Matsuchiyama Shoden - The tour continues with visits to some hidden gems in the Asakusa area, offering a deeper dive into Japanese culture. The guide will lead the group to three shrines and temples, each with unique features and purposes. The guide will provide interesting facts and history about these locations. Highlights include a mini Mount Fuji, a shrine filled with Maneki Neko statues (Lucky Cats), and a temple with a beautiful Japanese garden featuring a Koi pond and views of the Tokyo Skytree. Participants may also see stunning plum and cherry blossom trees. Be sure to take photos and pick up a small souvenir.
- Asakusa Sta. - After leaving the final temple, the group will walk back towards central Asakusa through the East side of Sumida Park to enjoy nature and views of the river and skyline. Finally, participants will visit the top of a popular building to enjoy a panoramic view of Asakusa.
The tour concludes as participants return to Asakusa station.

This Asakusa tour offers guests a wonderful opportunity to explore the area and journey back to the era when it was the vibrant center of Edo, now known as Tokyo. Guided by a local, English-speaking expert, the tour starts at the historic Senso-ji temple and the shopping street of Nakamise Dori. Participants will discover the traditional Japanese art of Taiko and have the chance to play these incredible drums. Lunchtime will be dedicated to exploring Asakusa’s renowned dining spots to savor the delights of Japanese cuisine and Izakaya culture. The afternoon will be spent discovering Asakusa’s famous ‘Kitchen Town’, followed by visits to temples and shrines away from the main tourist paths. The tour concludes with a relaxing time on the East side of Sumida Park, ending with stunning views of the Asakusa skyline!
