- Blue Mountains National Park - Spend a few hours exploring some of the finest natural landscapes of the Blue Mountains from the options listed below, with a series of short guided wilderness walks away from the crowds:
-
Immerse in a Jurassic wonderland of giant tree ferns and rainforest that has remained largely unchanged since the era of the dinosaurs.
-
Stroll through secluded groves of towering Eucalyptus trees, accompanied by birdsong as you breathe in the fresh mountain air and reflect on the region’s ancient indigenous heritage.
-
Dip your toes in crystal-clear mountain streams that meander through rainforest canyons before dramatically cascading as waterfalls to the valley below.
-
Get up close to ancient sandstone cliffs, intricately eroded over millions of years, adorned with a dazzling tapestry of mosses, ferns, and wildflowers.
-
Discover native Australian animals in their natural habitat, rather than in a zoo.
-
Sublime Point Lookout - One of the most spectacular lookouts in the Blue Mountains. From Sublime Point, gaze out from the rim of a vast canyon towards a seemingly endless wilderness of sandstone plateaux, escarpments, and gorges filled with eucalyptus trees, wildflowers, and Gondwanan rainforest. During the warmer months, enjoy a picnic lunch here in the shade of Eucalyptus trees.
-
Wentworth Falls Lookout - Wentworth Falls is the largest in the greater Blue Mountains wilderness area, dramatically plunging nearly 200 meters down to the Jamison Valley below.
-
Cliff Drive - On the way to the famous Three Sisters, take the scenic route through the quiet tree-lined back streets of Leura Village with its colorful gardens and historic architecture. Eventually, end up on Cliff Drive, which follows the rim of the canyon through pockets of rainforest that give way to glimpses of the vast Kedumba Valley below.
-
The Three Sisters - Descend through a beautiful rainforest-filled canyon to a quiet and secluded lookout with breathtaking views of the Three Sisters and Katoomba Falls.
-
Landslide Lookout - One of the most spectacular and least visited lookouts in the Blue Mountains. A short walk across a windswept plateau covered in wildflowers and sculpted sandstone outcrops leads to a remote rock platform offering a 300-degree view of the seemingly endless canyon walls of the Kedumba Valley.
-
Govetts Leap Lookout - At Govetts Leap, gaze out at a vast and dramatic Eucalyptus-filled canyon into which Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls abruptly plunge to the Grose Valley below.
From here, follow the Pulpit track out to an isolated lookout offering spectacular views of the twin waterfalls and rainforest-covered walls of the canyon. Along the way, cross a lovely rainforest gully with billabongs and tree ferns.
- Anvil Rock Lookout - Drive across the vast beauty of Blackheath Plateau with its wildflowers, stunted Eucalypts, and wind-sculpted rock formations to arrive at Anvil Rock Lookout. From a remote rock platform overlooking the mighty Grose Valley, enjoy epic views of the vertical sandstone walls that have led some to call this place the “Green Grand Canyon.”
Also nearby is the “Wind Eroded Cave,” a sweeping sandstone rock face intricately sculpted by wind over vast amounts of time.
-
Coachwood Glen Nature Trail - One of the most beautiful pockets of ancient Gondwanan rainforest in the Blue Mountains, Coachwood Glen sits within a narrow canyon that gradually descends hundreds of meters down to the floor of the Megalong Valley. Here, wander among giant tree ferns, gardens of moss, and gentle cascading streams.
-
Megalong Valley - Spot mobs of wild kangaroos with towering sandstone escarpments and rolling farmland fringed with stands of Eucalyptus forest as a backdrop.
-
Narrow Neck Plateau - As the magic hour light bathes a vast expanse of golden sandstone escarpments, explore the wind-swept beauty of a plateau top covered in wildflowers and intricately sculpted rock formations, culminating in a breathtaking sunset away from the tourist crowds.
-
Echo Point Lookout - The last stop for the day. Echo Point is the most famous of all the Blue Mountains lookouts as it offers the best, up-close view of the iconic “Three Sisters” rock formation, as well as a 270-degree view of the vast Jamison Valley. Particularly spectacular at sunset, one of the great spectacles of the Blue Mountains occurs as multiple large flocks of Sulphur Crested White Cockatoos descend back down to the valley floor to roost for the night. Watch them plummet off the escarpment all around, tumbling and rolling like daredevil fighter pilots for hundreds of meters and screeching with pure joy the whole way down. A truly thrilling and unforgettable experience!
