The guide will share insights into the Namib Desert’s origins and discuss the geological and climatic conditions of this coastal desert. As the tour progresses, all signs of civilization fade away, leaving travelers surrounded by the rugged and rocky landscape of the Namib Desert. Discover the “Ringing Stones” and the captivating flora of the Namib, such as the native Lithops, also known as “Living Stones,” along with a variety of rare lichens, and most notably, the extraordinary Welwitschia plant, a living fossil unique to this region. With some luck, visitors might spot Springbok, Klipspringer, Steenbok, Baboons, Ostriches, Ruppell’s Korhaan, and the Trac-trac Chat.
- Swakop River - Following a delightful lunch break, the tour continues along the dry riverbed of the Swakop Valley, bordered by Tamarisk, Prosopis, and Ana trees. The journey passes the Oasis “Goanikontes,” enters the Namib Naukluft Park, and offers a view of the “Moon Valley” from a scenic lookout. Engage with the ‘Ringing Stones’ and marvel at the indigenous plants of the Namib, particularly the remarkable Welwitschia Plant, an extant relic found only in this region. With some good fortune, we might spot Springbok, Klipspringer. Steenbok, Baboon, Ostriches, Ruppels Korhaan, and Trac-Trac Chat. Following a mid-day break for lunch, we cruise alongside the dried riverbed of the Swakop Valley and pass the ‘Goanikontes’ Oasis. We conclude our tour with a stop at the mobile sand deposits near Swakopmund.
