This tour offers a unique blend of kayaking and hiking, taking you on an adventure off the beaten path. Utilizing packrafts, which are lightweight inflatable kayaks, provides the ultimate flexibility for creating incredible expeditions on both land and water, free from the limitations of heavy, plastic kayaks. Paddle among ancient icebergs and trek across pristine landscapes in this thoughtfully designed experience showcasing the best of Vatnajökull National Park.
The journey starts at Hotel Smyrlabjörg, located roughly midway between Jökulsárlón and Höfn. From there, a 20-minute 4x4 drive takes you closer to the glacier and the beginning of your adventure!
The tour kicks off with an introduction to the equipment, kayaking techniques, and safety measures before launching the kayaks to explore the iceberg-laden lake for 1.5 to 2 hours. Afterward, the kayaks are docked, and participants hike through a secluded area to reach a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the glacier. Following the hike, participants will once again put on their drysuits to paddle a short distance before hiking back to the vehicle.
