Surfing Through Costa Rica’s Natural Wonders: A Journey of Discovery
When the call of the wild beckoned, I couldn’t resist the allure of Costa Rica’s exotic landscapes. Join me as I recount my journey through lush rainforests, majestic volcanoes, and pristine beaches, all while embracing the Pura Vida lifestyle.
Arrival in San Jose: A Warm Welcome
The moment I touched down in San Jose, Costa Rica, I could feel the vibrant energy of the place. The city was alive with the rhythm of Pura Vida, a phrase that encapsulates the Costa Rican way of life. As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve been to many places, but there’s something uniquely captivating about Costa Rica. The warm welcome at the airport set the tone for what would be an unforgettable journey.
Our first stop was the Wyndham Herradura Hotel. While the furnishings were a bit dated, the place was clean and functional. The layout was a bit of a maze, and I found myself chuckling as I got lost trying to find the reception. But the breakfast buffet was a delightful surprise, especially the coffee, which was the best I had in all of Costa Rica. It was the perfect start to our adventure.
Exploring Arenal and Monteverde: Nature’s Masterpieces
The journey from San Jose to Arenal was a scenic delight. The Arenal Volcano stood majestically against the sky, a reminder of nature’s raw power. We visited the Sarchi oxcart factory, a charming place where local craftsmen create beautiful souvenirs. It felt good to support local artisans, knowing our purchases were making a difference.
In Arenal, we had the option to go white water rafting or explore the hanging bridges. I chose the latter, and it was a decision I didn’t regret. Walking among the treetops, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest, was a surreal experience. Our guides were knowledgeable and passionate, pointing out wildlife and explaining the complex ecosystems.
Monteverde was next, and it was everything I had hoped for. The cloud forest was a living wonder, and the SkyTrek zip wires were an adrenaline rush. The instructors were attentive, ensuring we felt safe as we soared through the canopy. It was exhilarating, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of freedom as I flew through the air.
Manuel Antonio: A Beach Lover’s Paradise
Our final destination was Manuel Antonio, a place that felt like a slice of paradise. The white sand beaches were framed by lush greenery, and the ocean called to me like an old friend. We stayed at the Hotel Costa Verde, where the rooms were comfortable and the views were breathtaking.
I spent my days exploring the national park, where the wildlife was abundant and the trails were inviting. The guides were experts at spotting animals, and I was amazed at their ability to find creatures hidden in the foliage. It was a reminder of the importance of preserving these natural habitats.
After the tour, I decided to stay an extra week in Manuel Antonio to soak up the sun and surf. The waves were perfect, and I spent my days riding the swells and enjoying the laid-back vibe of the beach town. It was the perfect way to end my Costa Rican adventure, and I left with a heart full of gratitude and a promise to return.
