Fantastic Strahan cruise - Crew fabulous. Lunch was absolutely amazing (buffet style) probably the best I've ever had of its kind. Cruise was amazing the heritage walk and Sarah Island tour were great. I couldnt recommend this cruise any better, it was amazing. You MUST do it if and when in Strahan. We did it in 2001 now again in 2025.

Gordon river cruise - fantastic - This is a must do when next in Tazzie. While it is a 5 hour commitment each way to get to Strahan, the cruise makes it worth the effort. Start with a jaunt out to Hells gates to see what convicts were put through to make the harbour safe, then onto Gordon river to experience this world heritage area and then onto Sarah Island to get a glimpse of convict life. About 6 hours in all

Adventure in The West Coast Wilderness with Gordon River Cruises - So glad we took this cruise. Such a changeable landscape and climate. Cruise takes you across Macquarie Harbour to Hells Gate for a viewing of the entrance to the harbour from the open seas. Then up Gordon River to view the wilderness and Huon Pine. A stop at the Heritage landing to view the Huon up close and the eco system that it supports. 2nd stop on the return trip is at Sarah Island which was a Penal colony before Port Arthur was built. The island is so small and the mind boggles. Our Tour guide Maggie was a great story teller. The staff were fantastic in both knowledge and hospitality. We had a medical episode on the boat and the staff attended to the matter magnificently - very confidential and caring - a separate boat collected the patient and the tour continued. The lunch was buffet style with lovely salads, ham and smoked salmon. A great day - weather was hangable but rain held off when we needed to get of the boat. Thank you Gordon River Cruises:)

Gordon River Cruise - My husband and I went on the cruise this morning and it was great. Definitely worth the money. We even saw Southern Right Whales! Really tasty lunch, friendly and informative staff. Really great tours off the boat at both stops. 100% recommend!

A great experience - get the Upper Deck! - "Imagine you stand on your private deck, looking onto a mirror-glass clear river, the sun is out, and you enjoy a wonderful glass of wine while taking in spectacular views. You see birds taking off from the smooth water surface, in the distance you can see mountains, and soon you'll arrive on Sarah Island, a former colony, that looks so quaint, it's hard to believe people were sent there as a punishment.... " We booked this cruise on our trip in August 2025 and chose the Upper Deck option. While the cruise itself is great, you have perfect views, a great history tour and wildlife viewing opportunities, the Upper Deck experience makes it an unforgettable experience. Don't get me wrong, even the lower deck option will perfectly satisfy you and you get basically the same views, but if you cherish outstanding experiences, delicious food and wines (and can afford to splurge a bit) - get the Upper Deck. Here is why: 1) You have a private deck that is higher up and gives you (I would suppose) the better views. 2) When we cruised, we were just around 15 people (!!) on the Upper Deck, which made this experience as private and exclusive as it gets, feels like you chartered a yacht with a few friends and get prime service from your steward! 3) The free-flowing beverages. If you come to Tasmania to try wine, then this is probably the best wine tasting you can get. We had 10 hand-picked wines to choose from (sparkling white/rose, white, reds) and the pours were very much encouraged and generous! When we booked the cruise, I expected that refills may be a bit limited, or pours could be kept small, but oh no. You are very much encouraged to try as many of your favorites as you want, get offered re-fills before you even ask, large pours (had to even ask for a smaller one to sample :)) and through the day from the moment you leave. They also do not just offload "some" wines onto you, you can see they are picked and great! We found a few favorites! Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, lemonades and club sodas - all available too! 4) The food was amazing. No quickly thrown together loaded with cheap stuff buffet lunch, but top quality selected (Chef prepared) delicacies, and plenty for everyone! Second and third servings were encouraged and even the salmon was so plentiful, staff kept asking for people if they want more ;) 5) Staff was amazing, onboard and also the history tour. Knowledgeable, with humor, lots of interesting stories and details, but light enough not to bore even the biggest history lazy traveler. 6) Cruising is calm! And once you cruise the river, the engines went silent and we floated through mirror-glass waters. We saw many birds! This cruise is worth to come to Strahan for and spend a wonderful half day out exploring. Highly recommend it and also to stay at 2 nights (one night before and one after) in Strahan village. Get the Harbor View room, which will complete the experience with a wonderful pre and post enjoyment. There were special offers of 2 nights and cruise with a discount also, so check Strahan Village Hotel website for details.

Return to Gordon River after 30+ years and this experience met all expectations - Had a wonderful day and Bell and Erin were perfect hosts. Trip was awesome and the food was delicious. We were on the upper deck which is well worth it for comfort and that extra attention. I’d definitely recommend this to friends and family.

Strahan - Gordon River Cruise - Strahan is so pretty, and we loved the Cruise trip on the Gordon River. Breathless views around every corner. A must for anyone wanting to appreciate the magic of Tasmania. We missed the train ride but we will absolutely do that next time.
