Visitors are invited to board majestic tall ships, explore a shipyard where skilled shipwrights restore historic wooden vessels, wander through beautiful heirloom gardens, and listen to captivating sea stories shared by welcoming staff and volunteers. All indoor exhibits are available for guests to delve deeper into the life at sea during the golden age of sail and beyond. Special events are frequently held on summer weekends.

- Historic location. Ships and some exhibit buildings have limited handicap accessibility
- If closed due to extreme weather, you will be given the option of an alternative date

Incredible museum - This is one of my favorite museums, I love building the boats out of wood and it is really cool looking inside the old boats, the museum is stunning and it is one of my favorite parts of visiting mystic.

If you visited years ago it’s time for a revisit! - Our first visit was 45 yrs ago. This was our “walk down memory lane” trip. But it ended up being so much more. The Whaling exhibit is not to be missed and the Shipyard visit was out standing! Add to that a number of other unique exhibits and we cannot recommend a visit here enough!

Beautiful day - We enjoyed our time here. Spent about 2 hours and saw it all. Beautiful day and glad the majority is outside. Quick walk into Mystic afterwards.

Nice & interesting - This place is very nice. It is history in person. Loved it. Every employee (or volunteer) was pleasant and informative. We needed more than 1 day to see and enjoy everything. We'll go back &:I can't wait. 😂 The planetarium was super. Worth the extra. But let them know you are staying from out of town. & you get a discount. Everyone after us got a discount, but we did not. Only poo, poo 😂

Amazing day! - Our self guided tour of this living historic village was amazing. All buildings are original and have been moved to this site. Real time demonstrations a rope maker, blacksmith, cooper, sign makers making custom wooden carved painted signs, plus displays in the life saving station, school, store, apothecary, church and more. Learning about whaling on the last wooden whaleship the Charles W. Morgan was so interesting. We forget how whale oil was a much need commodity early on. And to think they started this

Loved it - It is outdoor and I really thought it waa indoor,it was like an old village not a museum that is indoors and I feel you don’t need too many hours there. I spent 1 hour there and saw everything.

Worth a visit! - As a solo traveler without kids, I really enjoyed this and was here for 2.5 hours. I think it was worth the $35. I learned a lot and would recommend this to anyone! I was glad that these were not reconstructions but actual buildings and ships.

⛵️ - This was a very unique experience! Getting to board the Charles W. Morgan ship & learn about the history of whaling in the United States was fascinating & educational. The seaport village had lots of additional information on what goes into a whaling economy, more than just the boats themselves. The active restoration shipyard was super cool & we loved getting an up close look at a ship being restored. Lots of hidden spots here, so you can definitely spend several hours exploring & learning.

Great Museum, But One Complaint. - First, I love the Seaport Museum, having visited numerous times over many years. However, the main current exhibit "Monstrous- Whaling and Its Impacts" was disappointing and unfortunately I see it's still going to be on exhibit when we plan to visit in September. While there are some interesting historical items on display they are relatively minimal for such a large exhibit area. The immense mural of a whale is very well done and quite interesting from a distance, but closer examination reveals that most of the individual pictures have little if any connection to whaling, but are simply expressions of historical racial grievances. In an appropriate setting they would be fine, but in a "whaling" museum they are out of place. While the historical involvement of various minorities, including African Americans, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, etc., in whaling is a very interesting story worthy of telling, modern civil rights episodes are out of place.
