- Caminho Niemayer - This is a collection of cultural facilities and a cultural center of significant architectural importance, designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, located in the coastal neighborhoods of Niterói. The complex extends for 11 km along the city’s edge, from Downtown to the South Zone.
Niterói is the second city with the most works by this esteemed Brazilian and global architect, second only to Brasília.
Enjoy this scenic route from the comfort of the vehicle until reaching the MAC, where you will disembark to explore the Museum of Contemporary Art.
- Museu de Arte Contemporanea de Niteroi - The Museum of Contemporary Art in Niterói offers a rich program of culture, arts, and knowledge. The MAC - Niterói collection comprises over a thousand artworks. Among these are pieces by artist Tomie Ohtake and other notable figures from the Nova Objetividade Brasileira artistic movement.
The museum extends over Boa Viagem (“Good Journey”) beach and neighborhood, with an 817 square meter reflecting pool surrounding its cylindrical base “like a flower,” as described by Niemeyer.
- Fortaleza de Santa Cruz da Barra - The journey to our next destination follows the city’s edge, showcasing stunning landscapes. The Santa Cruz Fortress is a popular tourist attraction in Niterói. The guide shares legends, stories, and facts about the Fortress. It offers a fascinating visit that combines Brazilian history with breathtaking scenery. The Fortress’s history dates back to Brazil’s colonization, when it was crucial to defend the entrance to Guanabara Bay from potential invaders. Its construction began in 1555 by French colonizers during their attempted invasion of the area now known as Rio de Janeiro. The Fortress is situated on the “corner” of Guanabara Bay, on a massive rock with the Bay on one side and the open sea on the other. Sugar Loaf Mountain, one of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic landmarks, is visible right in front of you.
- Família Paludo - Renowned for its personalized service and delicious buffet offerings, the Paludo Gourmet restaurant is “blessed” with its location, offering a stunning view of Guanabara Bay in the São Francisco neighborhood. If you choose not to dine here, the guide can suggest alternative dining options or you may extend your visit at the attractions.
- Parque da Cidade - Opened in 1976, the City Park of Niterói is an environmentally protected area located in Morro da Viração, with an elevation of approximately 270 meters. The Park covers an area of about 150,000 square meters and is popular for Paragliding Free Flight.
The main ramp facing Guanabara Bay offers views of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic landmarks, such as Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, Pedra da Gávea, Pico da Tijuca, Morro Dois Irmãos, Pedra Bonita, and more.
After visiting the Park, you will return to the private vehicle and cross the Rio-Niterói Bridge on your way back to Rio de Janeiro.
