Sailing into Serenity: A Day on the Virgin Islands Adventure
When the opportunity to explore the Virgin Islands aboard a private yacht presented itself, I couldn’t resist. With the promise of a customizable adventure, I was eager to see where the day would take us.
Setting Sail from Sapphire Beach Marina
The sun had barely risen when we arrived at Sapphire Beach Marina, the air still carrying the coolness of dawn. The crew was bustling about, finalizing paperwork and handing out snorkeling gear. I could feel the anticipation building as we prepared to embark on our Virgin Islands Adventure. The sky was a brilliant blue, and as we set off, a rainbow arched across the horizon—a promising start to our day on the water.
As we cruised towards The Baths, the crew served a delightful spread of morning snacks, complete with a selection of juices and pastries. It was the perfect way to ease into the adventure, savoring the flavors while the yacht cut through the gentle waves. Our captain, Greg, and his crew, Kate and Cam, were attentive and friendly, ensuring everyone felt at ease and ready for the day ahead.
Exploring The Baths
Arriving at The Baths was like stepping into another world. The massive granite boulders formed a labyrinth of caves and pools, inviting exploration. We hiked through the rock formations, each turn revealing a new perspective of this natural wonder. The climb required a bit of agility, but the effort was rewarded with breathtaking views and the chance to capture some incredible photos.
For those who preferred a more relaxed pace, the Top of the Baths restaurant offered a serene spot to unwind. With a swimming pool, bar, and restaurant, it was an ideal place to soak in the surroundings without the climb. After a satisfying lunch, we were ready for the next leg of our journey.
Snorkeling and Jost Van Dyke
Our next stop was a secluded snorkeling spot, where the underwater world came alive with vibrant fish and coral. The tranquility of the location made it feel like our own private paradise. As a former surfer, I felt a deep connection with the ocean, and snorkeling here was a reminder of the beauty that lies beneath the surface.
The final destination of the day was Jost Van Dyke, a small island with a big personality. With no dock, we had to jump off the boat and swim to shore, a thrilling way to arrive. Equipped with snorkeling vests, even those less confident in the water could make the journey with ease. I had brought along a dry sack, a tip I picked up from a previous review, which allowed me to safely carry my camera and phone to shore.
As the day came to a close, we returned to St. John, passing through customs with ease. Reflecting on the day’s adventures, I felt a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to experience such a unique and customizable journey. The crew’s expertise and hospitality made it an unforgettable day, and I knew that if I ever returned to St. Thomas, I would eagerly book another excursion with New Horizons and Breakaway charters.
